Position: Resource Aide - Hourly (LFE - 1.5 hrs)
Location: Lee's Summit

Purpose Statement

The job of Resource Aide was established for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional process with specific responsibilities for ensuring the safety and welfare of students during non-classroom activities; minimizing the frequency and/or severity of harmful incidents; and communicating observations and/or incidents that have a potential impact on the general well-being of students, school personnel, and/or visitors.

Duration

2026-27 School Year: 171 days/year, 1.5 hours/day.

Reporting

This job reports to Principal.

Essential Functions
  • Assists in the maintenance of playground areas (e.g., raking wood chips, checking playground equipment and picking up trash, etc.) to provide a safe environment.
  • Communicates safety and security policies and enforcement procedures to students, staff and visitors for the purpose of ensuring their understanding of such information and the potential consequences of violation.
  • Intervenes in potential conflicts and emergency situations to minimize disruptions of campus activities and/or injury to involved parties.
  • Maintains a variety of files and records (e.g., schedules, guidelines, etc.) for future reference and/or audit compliance with established policies.
  • Monitors student behavior during and between assigned periods (e.g., restrooms, playgrounds, hallways, library, cafeteria, etc.) to ensure compliance with guidelines, maintain a safe and positive learning environment, and secure facility.
  • Participates in unit meetings, in-service training, workshops, etc. to convey and/or gather information required to perform job functions.
  • Prepares written materials (e.g., incident reports, activity logs, copier count report, etc.) to document activities, provide written reference, and/or convey information.
  • Processes requests for copies and copies materials for teachers and staff throughout the school site to assist in the overall educational program.
  • Provides coverage for other classified staff members as needed to maintain service quality.
  • Refers incidents including personal injuries, altercations, suspicious activities, rule violations, etc. to appropriate site personnel for follow-up in accordance with administrative, site security and student safety guidelines.
  • Responds to a variety of situations (e.g., accidents, injuries, vandalism, suspicious activities, alarms, etc.) to resolve immediate safety and/or security concerns.
  • Responds to inquiries regarding campus security issues to provide information, direction and/or referral for addressing inquiries.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Qualifications Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities

Skills:

adhere to safety practices; operate standard office equipment and relevant software; prepare and maintain accurate records.

Knowledge: basic math; understand written procedures; write routine documents; speak clearly; understand multi-step written and oral instructions; safety practices and procedures; child guidance practices; basic subjects taught in District schools; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation, and vocabulary.

Abilities: schedule activities; collate data; use basic job-related equipment; flexibility to work with others; work with data using defined processes; operate equipment using standardized methods; work with diverse individuals and/or groups; problem-solve to identify issues and create action plans; communicate with diverse groups; supervise and discipline students per approved policies; model appropriate social skills; document student behavior; understand and follow directions;

communicate effectively orally and in writing.

Working Environment

Physical demands: significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling; some climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling; fine finger dexterity; 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing; temperature extremes; hazard-free environment.

Experience

Job-related experience is desired.
