Purpose Statement
Provides support to the instructional process by serving as a secondary teacher responsible for developing student success in academics or electives; develops lesson plans and delivers group and/or individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; supervises students within the classroom and other assigned areas; collaborates with other teachers, staff, and administrators to address instructional and classroom issues; and responds to inquiries from students' parents or guardians regarding instructional programs and student progress.
This position reports to the Principal.
Essential Functions- Administers subject-specific assessments, district/state tests (e.g., MAP) to assess student competency levels and develop individual learning plans.
- Advises parents/legal guardians of student progress, communicates expectations, develops improvement methods, and reinforces classroom goals in the home environment.
- Analyzes test data and plans instructional responses to enhance student achievement.
- Assesses student progress toward objectives, expectations and goals (grades, tests, quizzes, student work, observations). Provides feedback to students, parents, administration and seeks assistance from district specialists.
- Assists students with exploring post‑high school opportunities, providing guidance for future work or education.
- Collaborates with professional learning communities, instructional staff, other personnel, parents, business partners, and community resources to improve student outcomes and support the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students to improve performance, health status, problem‑solving techniques and personal issues.
- Demonstrates methods required to perform classroom/subject-specific assignments (language arts, mathematics, science, history) for an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work and integrates district initiatives (literacy plan, diversity plan, technology requirements) for individualized learning.
- Directs paraprofessionals, volunteers and student workers to provide an effective classroom program.
- Facilitates student learning by creating a learning environment, integrating technology, arranging field trips, organizing age‑appropriate activities to achieve success in academics, interpersonal and daily living skills through lesson plans.
- Instructs students to improve academic success through a defined course of study.
- Integrates district initiatives to increase student achievement.
- Maintains confidential and non‑confidential records (grades, test scores, etc.) up to date, adhering to administrative guidelines and legal requirements.
- Manages student behavior to create a safe, caring environment across all facets of the school program.
- Monitors students in various educational environments (classroom, campus grounds, field trips, clubs, athletic events, graduation, dances) to provide a safe learning environment.
- Participates in meetings (staff, SAP, department, faculty, professional development) for gathering information needed to boost student achievement.
- Prepares written materials (grades, attendance, anecdotal records, lesson plans, progress reports) to document student progress and meet mandated requirements.
- Reports incidents (fights, suspected child abuse, suspected substance abuse) to maintain personal safety, provide a positive environment, and adhere to education code and policies.
- Responds to emergency situations to resolve immediate safety concerns or direct to appropriate personnel.
- Responds to inquiries from students, teachers, parents, administrators to resolve issues and provide information or direction.
- Performs other related duties assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
