Purpose StatementThe Paraprofessional Specialist supports the instructional program within the assigned classroom, working one‑on‑one with at‑risk students, following educational and behavioral plans, documenting daily activities, and modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff.
Essential Functions- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and materials under the direction of the supervising teacher to support classroom objectives.
- Communicates with professionals (e.g., Speech Therapist, PTs, COTAs) to evaluate progress and implement IEP objectives.
- Collects student and classroom data (behavior, completed assignments, on/off‑task times) to monitor growth and inform IEP/BIP revisions; facilitates instruction and behavior supports under teacher direction.
- Provides accommodations and modifications to increase accessibility in general and special education environments.
- Engages in professional development to stay current on educational practices for students significantly impacted by disability.
- Maintains confidentiality of student information in accordance with policy and guidelines.
- Maintains manual and electronic files for reference and compliance with mandated requirements.
- Models conversation, manners, cleanup activities, listening, and everyday interactions to demonstrate appropriate social behavior in a culturally sensitive manner.
- Performs other related duties to ensure efficient functioning of the work unit.
- Provides instruction in specified areas (math, science, reading, behavioral skills, daily living skills, writing, verbal skills, etc.) to implement IEP goals, assisting students in adapting to mainstream classrooms and ensuring their success.
- Monitors students during assigned periods for safety, removing as necessary and de‑escalating situations outside the classroom.
- Responds to emergencies, resolving immediate safety concerns through district‑approved procedures.
- Education
: 60 college credit hours; pass the Paraprofessional Test in MO or completion of the Missouri 20‑hour Online Substitute Training Program. - Testing

Criminal Justice Fingerprint/Background Clearance. - Experience

Basic math (fractions, percentages, ratios); read manuals and write documents; analyze situations; knowledge of age‑appropriate activities for high‑risk youth and grammar and punctuation. - Abilities

Schedule activities, gather and collate data, use job‑related equipment, maintain confidentiality, work with diverse groups; problem‑solving; establish effective relationships; work as part of a team; manage frequent interruptions.
Physical demands include significant lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and fine‑finger dexterity. The job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, 40% standing with minimal temperature variation.
