Facilities Engineer

The Facilities Engineer is a technical engineering role responsible for the reliability, optimization, troubleshooting, and improvement of building services, plant utilities, and facility infrastructure supporting Injection Molding, Thermoforming, Printing, and Warehouse operations.

The position provides hands-on engineering expertise to evaluate existing systems, develop and implement technical solutions, and lead facility engineering and capital projects from concept through commissioning and close-out.

The role focuses on technical engineering, infrastructure reliability, and project execution, working closely with Plant Maintenance, Engineering, EHS, operations, contractors, consultants, and suppliers.

Position Responsibilities

A. Building Services Engineering

  • Evaluate the performance, condition, capacity, and reliability of existing plant utility and service systems.
  • Develop engineering solutions to address capacity limitations, reliability issues, energy consumption, obsolescence, and infrastructure deficiencies.
  • Perform or coordinate engineering calculations, technical assessments, system evaluations, and feasibility studies.
  • Review existing systems and determine appropriate modifications, upgrades, replacements, or expansions.
  • Develop technical concepts and engineering recommendations based on operational requirements, applicable codes, standards, and best engineering practices.
  • Troubleshoot complex building utility and infrastructure problems and determine root causes.
  • Evaluate system capacity and loading requirements for existing and future plant needs.
  • Develop technical scopes of work, specifications, drawings, and documentation for facility engineering projects.
  • Review engineering designs and contractor proposals to ensure technical requirements are satisfied.
  • Support commissioning and performance verification of new or modified building systems.

B. Building Utilities & Services

Provide technical engineering support for the following systems, as applicable to the facility:

  • Electrical distribution and power systems
  • HVAC and building environmental systems
  • Chilled water systems
  • Domestic and process-related water systems
  • Compressed air systems
  • Plumbing and drainage systems
  • Building Automation Systems (BAS)
  • Fire protection and life-safety systems
  • Building structures and envelope
  • Facility-related utility distribution systems
  • Site and ground infrastructure

The Facilities Engineer shall develop sufficient technical understanding of these systems to evaluate their performance, identify deficiencies, troubleshoot problems, and develop improvement solutions.

C. Building Automation Systems (BAS)

  • Monitor and analyze BAS system operation and trends.
  • Troubleshoot BAS-related issues and identify opportunities for improved system performance.
  • Evaluate HVAC and other building systems through BAS data and system trends.
  • Develop and implement improvements to controls, sequences of operation, scheduling, and system performance.
  • Coordinate BAS modifications with controls contractors and service providers.
  • Ensure BAS documentation and sequences of operation are maintained and updated.
  • Utilize BAS data to support energy optimization and facility troubleshooting.

D. AutoCAD & Engineering Documentation

  • Maintain and update facility drawings, layouts, utility plans, and engineering documentation.
  • Use AutoCAD at a strong working level to develop and modify facility layouts and engineering drawings.
  • Review architectural, mechanical, electrical, structural, and utility drawings.
  • Develop or coordinate drawings required for facility modifications and projects.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of existing facility infrastructure and utility systems.
  • Identify discrepancies between existing conditions and available drawings and coordinate updates as required.

E. Project Engineering & Project Management

The Facilities Engineer is expected to take ownership of assigned projects from concept through completion.
