Role Description

This is a Full-time on-site position.

  • Manage consignor relationships throughout the auction cycle
  • Develop new client relationships for consignment
  • Coordinate with team to price and negotiate consignment inquiries
  • Manage physical inventory receipt, pick-up, and cataloguing of works
  • Research and construct catalogue notes for a large variety of works of different genres, periods, media, and price points
  • Maintain communication with artist authorities (Foundations, Estates, and Galleries) for relevant processes of authentication and expertise gathering
  • Collaborate with team on marketing plans for individual consignments
  • Proofread and provide ad hoc support during the final stages of catalogue development
  • Address auction related inquiries including condition reports
  • Contribute to the planning and execution auction day operations
  • Additional duties as assigned by the Executive Director
Qualifications
  • Demonstrated expertise or strong interest in fine art, antiques, and collectible categories
  • Excellent research and valuation skills
  • Strong written communication skills for crafting clear, accurate, and engaging catalog descriptions and client correspondence.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills for managing multiple consignments, deadlines, and auction schedules.
  • Customer service and interpersonal skills to interact professionally with clients, colleagues, and visitors in a fast-paced auction environment.
  • Comfort with technology, including auction platforms, online research tools, and standard office software.
  • Flexibility to work occasional evening or weekend hours around sale dates.
  • Bachelor’s degree in art history, decorative arts, history, or a related field, or minimum 3-5 years equivalent professional experience in auctions, galleries, or personal property appraisals.
  • Experience in cataloging, appraisals, or auction operations is preferred; professional appraisal coursework or certifications are a plus.
