Employees assigned may be eligible for a commuting allowance of $180.00 bi-weekly.

Essential Functions And Responsibilities- Responds to radio calls, and to the scene of a crime or an accident.
- Interviews suspects and witnesses and writes crime reports.
- Conducts investigations of suspicious activity.
- Detains or arrests violators; books and transports detainees to the appropriate Police Facility.
- Uses current scientific practices to process crime scenes, property and evidence.
- Applies for warrants and appears in court, as needed.
- Performs numerous other activities in support of the Community Policing philosophy.
- Establishes a rapport with vendors/businesses.
- Responds to citizen’s and visitor’s questions.
- Patrols assigned areas, directs traffic, issues traffic tickets.
- Implements and may instruct others in Airport security measures.
- Investigates malfunctioning security doors and alarms.
- May be assigned as an Explosive Detection Canine Handler or detached to a specialized unit.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Requires ability to perform mid‑level data analysis, audit, deduce, assess, conclude and appraise, and exercise discretion in determining criteria. - Human Interaction:
Work leader/coordinator class with responsibility for coordinating and guiding the work of at least two or more full‑time equivalent positions. - Equipment, Machinery, Tools and Materials Use:
Ability to operate, calibrate, tune and synchronize equipment such as a motor vehicle, computer terminal, firearm, radio, baton, mace, and related materials. - Verbal Aptitude:
Ability to utilize advisory data and information such as log books, property receipts, lists, zoning maps, blueprints, FAA handbooks, police and canine manuals. - Mathematical Aptitude:
Ability to perform addition, subtraction, multiplication, division; calculate percentages and decimals. - Functional Reasoning:
Ability to apply principles of rational systems, interpret instructions, exercise independent judgment. - Situational Reasoning:
Ability to exercise judgment, decisiveness and creativity in critical or unexpected situations involving moderate risk. - Environmental Factors:
Tasks may involve exposure to adverse conditions such as dust, fumes, humidity, noise extremes, traffic hazards, violence, disease. - Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift, carry, push, pull 20–50 lbs, occasionally up to 100 lbs; ability to exert heavy effort, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl. - Sensory Requirements:
Ability to recognize and identify differences in colors, shapes, sounds, odors, textures associated with job tasks.
- Positions require shift, weekend and holiday assignments, as well as mandatory overtime.
- A ten‑year background investigation will be conducted in accordance with FAA regulations.
A high school diploma or General Educational Development (G.E.D.) certificate.
AgeApplicants must be at least 21 years of age at the time of application.
Certification / DeputizationMust be certified as a Police Officer by the State of Missouri and deputized as a Police Officer by St. Louis County, Missouri by completion of the working test period.
LicenseMust possess and maintain a valid driver’s license while employed. Proof of a valid driver’s license is required for consideration.

Pass/Fail – includes oral swab drug screen, physical examination, and psychological examination.
To be eligible: submit DD‑214 Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty. The Director of Personnel may accept alternate documentation.
City Residence PreferenceCity residents who pass an examination and receive no other preference receive a 5‑point preference. An additional 1‑point added to the passing score if they receive any other preference. City residents must have resided in the City for at least one year at the time of application.
