Job Summary and QualificationsWhat You Will Do In This Role:
- The role of the OR Tech II is to assist the OR team in the care of patients, equipment, and supplies.
- The OR Tech II provides care for birth to pediatric, pediatric/child patients between 1 to 11 years of age; adolescent patients between 12 to 17 years of age; adult patients between 18 to 64 years; and geriatric patients 65 years and older.
- The surgical technologist in the first scrub role handles the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the surgical procedure.
- The OR Tech II understands the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon.
- The OR Tech II has the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and is constantly on vigil for maintenance of the sterile field.
- When the OR Tech II is in the second scrub role, they assist the surgeon and/or surgical assistant during the operative procedure by carrying out tasks including sponging, suctioning, cutting suture, holding retractors and manipulating the endoscopic camera.
- This role is distinct from that of the first scrub and surgical first assistant.
What Qualifications You Will Need:
- Graduate of an accredited school of Certified Operating Room Technicians (CORT)
- Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) from the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) preferred. Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) from American Heart Association or American Red Cross required upon hire
- In addition to meeting the requirements of an OR Tech I position, must also be competent to perform as first scrub in three of the four following specialty areas:
Robotic, Total Joints, Neuro/Spine, and Vascular Surgery.
