Facilities - Cleaner (B Shift)
7AM - 7PM on a rotating continental shift schedule.
Job Objective
Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Cleaner is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and good order in all assigned areas of the Polytainers facility. This includes sanitizing production floors, shared spaces, offices, and support areas across departments such as Printing, Molding, Shipping, Warehouse, and Administration. Cleaners play a critical role in ensuring the facility remains compliant with sanitation and safety standards, including those required by our Safe Quality Food (SQF) certification.
Core Responsibilities
The core responsibilities and expectations of the Cleaner include but are not limited to:
- Maintain a high standard of cleanliness as per the Current Good Manufacturing Practices Manual and SQF requirements.
- Perform daily cleaning activities such as sweeping, mopping, spraying, and sanitizing all common and work areas.
- Use and maintain cleaning equipment safely, including floor scrubbers (e.g., Tennant Machine).
- Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Complete assigned tasks in a timely manner.
- Perform additional duties or special projects as assigned by the Cleaning Supervisor or Facilities Supervisor.
Daily Responsibilities
Production Floors (Molding & Printing)
- Remove garbage and replace liners
- Sweep and mop entire floor area, including corners and under equipment
- Clean oil spills under and around machinery
- Check and clean around stackers, pigment, and materials areas
- Scrub floors using small scrubber units
- Inspect area and correct any slip/trip hazards
Lunchrooms (Molding, Printing & Warehouse)
- Remove garbage and replace liners
- Sweep and mop floors
- Wipe and disinfect:
Microwaves (inside and out), Refrigerators (external surfaces), Vending machines, Tables, chairs, cupboards, shelving, and countertops, Baseboards and windowsills - Clean sinks and fixtures
- Refill soap, hand sanitizer, paper towels as needed
Washrooms & Locker Rooms (Men’s & Women’s)
- Remove garbage and replace liners
- Sweep and mop floors
- Clean and disinfect:
Toilets, urinals, sinks, faucets, mirrors, Surfaces, dispensers, and door handles/push plates - Check and refill:
Toilet paper, Hand soap, Paper towels and Hand sanitizers
Offices (QA, Maintenance, Warehouse, Shipping, General Admin)
- Remove garbage and replace liners
- Sweep and mop/vacuum floors
- Clean and disinfect:
Desks and surfaces, Door handles and push plates, Glass/mirrors and partitions - Maintain cleanliness in entryways, including mats and door frames
First Aid Rooms
- Sweep and mop floors, remove garbage and replace liners
- Clean and disinfect:
Sink and faucet, Countertops and surfaces, Bed and related equipment - Sweep and mop all stairwells, mezzanines, and hallway floors (including entryways and between departments)
- Clean and disinfect stair rails, wall surfaces, and door handles
- Check for slip hazards and remove debris or obstructions
Weekly Responsibilities
- Wipe down baseboards, windowsills, and glass partitions
- Clean eyewash stations in Molding & Printing areas
- Clean boardroom tables and administrative office areas
- Clean inside elevators and stairwells thoroughly
As-Needed Tasks
- Inspect and correct slip or trip hazards
- Clean oil under/around machines and stackers
- Clean behind/under large machinery or after relocations
- Perform deep cleaning of solvent and oil storage rooms
- Respond to cleaning needs reported by maintenance or supervisors
Tools & Equipment Used
- Walk-Behind Floor scrubbers (e.g., Tennant machine)
- Disinfectant sprays, glass cleaners, degreasers
- PPE:
Gloves, safety glasses, safety shoes
Qualifications
- Education: No formal education required
- Experience:
No prior experience necessary (training provided) - Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift 20+ lbs, Ability to stand, bend, reach, and walk for extended periods - Communication:
Fluent in English, with basic verbal and written communication skills - Time management and organization
- Physical stamina for extended standing, bending, and lifting (up to 30 lbs)
