Production Manager, Lean Manufacturing / Six Sigma
Location: Lee's Summit
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Printing Manager, the Printing Shift Supervisor manages the production results for one shift in the printing department, ensuring cost, quality, and customer service meet business expectations and continuously improve. The role is a 12‑hour continental shift that promotes a safe, fair, equitable, and non‑discriminatory working environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Supervise People
- Manage and resolve personnel issues
- Lead performance improvement processes
- Manage and reduce absenteeism through follow‑up and related actions
- Maintain the training program and training matrix
- Ensure conformity to the Standards of Conduct
- Maintain good employee relations through diligent communication and feedback
- Supervise Shop Floor Performance of Shift
- Ensure quality and schedule attainment requirements are met
- Write storyboards and provide corrective actions for PQIs as assigned
- Ensure productivity and labor budget targets are met and exceeded
- Plan vacations to satisfy production needs and manage labor
- Improve uptime and OEE metrics
- Manage utility scanning, inventory levels and QSCOT
- Support and Drive Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities and drive continuous improvement results in print quality, cost, reliability, flexible operations, safety, housekeeping, and yields
- Lead and/or participate in improvement projects
- Partner with peers to implement process changes and physical upgrades, ensuring new systems are properly commissioned and validated and SOPs are developed
- Aid in the development of performance metrics to drive continuous improvement and implement change
- Create and update SOPs and related documents
- Communicate and Report on Performance
- Overtime with previous Shift Supervisor and report opportunities
- Conduct formal communication sessions, daily audits, and Cell Leader meetings
- Collect data and submit daily production reports
- Training
- Responsible for training team members on GMPs, Food Safety, and Quality procedures
Educational Requirements: Post‑secondary education in manufacturing, business, or related technical experience in packaging or related converting business preferred.
Minimum Experience/Field: 5 – 10 years of leadership experience in a progressive manufacturing environment.
- Experience in a midsize to large manufacturing environment with fast‑paced made‑to‑order processes
- Technical print experience; dry‑offset printing preferred
- Strong working knowledge of Excel, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Office suite
- Understanding of Lean Manufacturing Processes, Total Quality, SPC, HACCP, SQF, and GMPs
Fluent in English with good verbal and written communication skills.
Physical RequirementsThe job requires both office and plant exposure, with air‑conditioned environments subjected to high noise levels. From time to time, the incumbent must be able to work for long periods of time.
