Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) for our Village Care Center
LPN or RN
Full-Time, Exempt
Monday – Friday with on-call rotation
JOB SUMMARYAccountable for the overall operation of the nursing unit. Serves as an advocate for unit residents and associates, identifies needed organizational development and change, and supports unit standards for staffing and equipment budgets. Ensures coordination of other departmental functions within the VCC and JKV. Serves on appropriate VCC and JKV committees. Responsible for appropriate staffing and maintaining a positive work environment.
Ensures adherence to standards for clinical care and competency. Ensures unit compliance with local, state, and federal regulations, and with nursing systems, policies, procedures and standards. Participates in new program development. Supports Village mission and values.
- Implements all personnel functions affecting the unit.
- Develops and supports lines of communication within the nursing department, VCC and JKV.
- Establishes policies, procedures, and objectives for the department.
- Reports issues and concerns to Director of Nursing and Administrator.
- Counsels department associates as needed; initiates developmental actions to assist the associate, and recommends to HR the termination of associates when necessary, documenting actions with HR.
- Monitors departmental safety practices to maintain compliance with Village policies and procedures as well as local, state, and federal laws (e.g., OSHA).
- Supervises and coordinates nursing activities at VCC.
- Assigns duties and coordinates nursing services.
- Evaluates and audits nursing activities to ensure quality patient care.
- Observes nursing care and visits patients to ensure care is delivered as planned.
- Ensures medical records are completed correctly.
- Investigates and resolves resident/family complaints.
- Participates in performance improvement plan / CQI.
- Establishes policies, procedures, and objectives for the department and participates in or chairs assigned committees.
- Maintains competency by working one floor shift per month, minimum.
- May assist with staffing as needed.
- May assume nursing administrative responsibility in the absence of the Director of Nursing.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Maintains professional workplace conduct and works collaboratively with others.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONSEducation
:
- Combination of education, training and experience equivalent to a degree from an accredited School of Nursing.
Licenses/Certifications
:
- Registered Nurse (RN) or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) in the state of Missouri is required, or a multi-state license from a nurse licensure compact state that allows practice in Missouri.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless noted):
- Organizational and time-management skills; ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
- Proactive leadership and team-building skills.
- Advanced keyboarding; proficiency in Microsoft Windows, Word, Excel, and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
- Other essential abilities include precision, problem solving, persuasiveness, creativity, initiative, analytical ability, good judgment and patience.
Experience
:
- Minimum of 3 years clinical experience plus a minimum of 2 years management experience in an acute or long-term care setting – total 5 years of experience.
- Work is primarily in an environmentally controlled nursing care facility with occasional exposure to body fluids, needles, and chemicals.
- Personal protective equipment is available and required.
- All associates may be called upon to assist other departments in a declared emergency situation.
