American Traveler is hiring an experienced RN for a Med/Surg Telemetry (PCU) position at a community hospital, requiring 2 years of recent specialty experience and both MO and KS RN licenses in hand.
Details- Work setting is a 240-bed community hospital with a 16-bed ICU on a Med/Surg Telemetry (PCU) unit
- Patient population includes cardiac (AMI, arrhythmia, heart failure, chest pain, pre/post cath), vascular/PVD, sepsis/infection, pneumonia, ETOH withdrawal, SI, GI bleed, and intermediate-level care patients
- Patient ratio is 1:5
- Night shift, 3x12-hour shifts (18:45–07:15)
- 8 weekend shifts required per 6-week scheduling period, with shifts falling on a combination of Friday, Saturday, and Sunday
- Regular floating may be required between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Charting is performed in Epic
- Telemetry monitoring equipment is used on the unit
- No on-call requirements
- Block scheduling is not available
- Parking is free
- Active RN license in both Missouri (or Compact) and Kansas required — both must be in hand prior to consideration, as floating between facilities may require both
- Minimum 2 years of recent Med/Surg Telemetry specialty experience required, including at least 1 full year of in-specialty experience within the past 12 months with no employment gap greater than 90 days
- Community hospital experience required
- Previous charge RN experience preferred
- Required certifications: BLS, NIHSS
- Preferred certifications: ACLS, CPI
- Required clinical skills include: cardiac rhythm interpretation and dysrhythmia management, telemetry monitoring, rapid response team participation, post cardiac angiogram/MI/cath care, femoral line/groin site management, feeding tube care, pre/post hemodialysis management, blood product administration, central/peripheral/PICC line management, IV insertion, heparin protocols, non-titrated cardiac and vasoactive drip management, PCA management, CVA care, surgical drain management, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur-evac), CPAP/BiPAP, HFNC, ABG interpretation, non-invasive airway management, tracheostomy management, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac
- Preferred skills include: sheath removal, port access, phlebotomy, and total joint replacement care
- Epic EMR experience preferred
- Pending licenses are not accepted — all required licenses must be in hand at time of consideration
- Candidates must reside at least 75 miles from the facility to be eligible
- 2 professional references required: at least one must be at the supervisor level or above; the second may be from a charge RN — all references must be from individuals who have worked with the candidate within the past year
- SSN must be provided for consideration

- Responsibilities include intermediate-level care nursing with an emphasis on cardiac, telemetry, and multi-system patient management
- Charge RN assignments may be required as needed per unit
- Holiday shift coverage is required as assigned
- Scrub color is navy
- RTO is capped at 7 days for the duration of the contract
- Orientation modules are required and are generally completed prior to the start date, averaging 10–15 hours total
