American Traveler is hiring an experienced NICU RN for a 13-week night shift assignment requiring 2+ years of recent NICU experience and BLS/NRP certifications.
Requirements- Active RN license (Kansas and Missouri or compact) required in hand at time of consideration
- BLS and NRP certifications required; STABLE certification preferred
- Minimum 2 years of recent NICU experience required, with no employment gaps greater than 90 days in the past year
- Patient ratio experience of 1:1-3
- Skilled in dysrhythmia interpretation, invasive hemodynamic monitoring, and blood glucose monitoring
- Experience with neonatal sepsis management, phototherapy, and hyperbilirubinemia treatment
- Skilled in feeding management including bottle, breast, and gavage feeding, and NG/NJ tube placement
- Experience with high-flow nasal cannula, bubble CPAP, and various oxygen delivery systems
- Skilled in neonatal dosage calculations, administration of antibiotics/antivirals, anti-seizure medications, and steroids
- Experience assisting with lumbar punctures and managing neonatal abstinence syndrome
- Previous travel RN experience required
- Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
- Level III NICU with 18 rooms and 20 beds, average daily census of 6.9
- Night shift, 3x12 hours (18:45-07:15)
- Weekend requirement of 4 weekend shifts per 6-week schedule (Friday and/or Saturday night) plus 2 Sunday nights per 6-week schedule
- On-call requirement of two 12-hour call shifts per 6-week schedule
- Floating required to well baby nursery and to attend deliveries on L&D, with additional floating between departments, units, and facilities as needed
- Cares for neonates across all gestational ages, including 34 weeks
- Performs high-risk delivery attendance, ventilator management, UAC/UVC care, arterial line management, and central line care
- Uses EPIC charting system
- Provide comprehensive NICU nursing care including APGAR scoring, developmental care, and patient/family teaching
- Navy blue scrubs provided for charge nurses and transition/baby catcher nurse roles only
- Maximum RTO of 7 days, finalized at time of submission with no changes allowed afterward
- Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility; local candidates within this radius will not be considered
- First-time travelers are not accepted for this role
- Returning staff must have a 3-month break in service with 18-month tenure requirement; permanent employees must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
- Travel partners are not accepted for this assignment
