Description

American Traveler is hiring an experienced Med/Surg Tele RN for a 13-week day shift assignment requiring 2 years of specialty experience and NIHSS certification.

Details
  • MS/Tele unit with an average daily census of 29 and 30 beds
  • Day shift schedule of three 12-hour shifts (6:45 AM to 7:15 PM)
  • Patient population includes general intermediate, sepsis/infection, wounds, CHF, cardiac arrhythmias, AMI, CVA/TIA, altered mental status, ETOH withdrawal, SI, general post-op, ortho, urology, and GI bleed cases
  • Patient ratio of 1:5
  • No on-call responsibilities
  • Weekend requirement of 4-6 shifts every 6 weeks
  • Floating required within service line and to sister facilities as needed
  • EPIC charting system used
Requirements
  • Active RN license required (Missouri or Kansas, or compact license in hand)
  • Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent specialty experience required, with a full year in-specialty experience within the past 12 months and no employment gap greater than 90 days
  • Community hospital experience required
  • Skills required:

    telemetry and cardiac telemetry monitoring, interpretation and management of dysrhythmias, use of rapid response/code teams, feeding tube care, blood product administration, central and peripheral line care, PICC line management, IV starting and maintenance, heparin protocols, cardiac drip management (no titration), PCA management, surgical drain care, chest tube management (Emerson/Pleur Evac), high flow nasal cannula and nasal cannula use, oxygen administration, tracheostomy care, isolation precautions, and wound care/wound vac management
  • Two professional references required, one from a supervisor and one from a charge RN, both from within the past year
Additional Information
  • Provide comprehensive nursing care to a general intermediate patient population with a variety of acute conditions
  • Navy scrub color required
  • Must reside at least 75 miles from the facility, as local candidates are not accepted
  • First-time travelers are welcome to apply, though travel experience is preferred
  • Maximum RTO of 7 days, with all time-off requests finalized at time of consideration and no changes permitted afterward
  • Returning staff must have an 18-month tenure with a 3-month break in service; former permanent employees of BJC or Saint Luke's must wait 1 year before returning as a traveler
  • Facility may offer the position without an interview, though candidates may request one
