*** Selcon Construction is hiring Equipment Operators to support underground utility construction crews. We are looking for candidates with heavy equipment experience and underground utility experience, OR candidates with drilling / locating experience.

This role is hands-on, safety-focused, and field-based. Operators will support trenching, excavation, utility installation, back filling, cleanup, and general crew production.

Project-based schedule, overtime and weekends may be required
* Travel:
Required, 2–3 weeks out at a time depending on project location and business need

* Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

* Key Responsibilities:

**** Operate heavy equipment safely around crews, traffic, utilities, and active construction areas
* Operate equipment such as excavators, backhoes, skid steers, trenchers, loaders, plows, or other utility construction equipment based on experience
* Support underground utility installation, trenching, excavation, back filling, grading, and site cleanup
* Work around existing underground utilities and follow dig-safe procedures at all times
* Spot for other operators and communicate clearly with Foremen, Laborers, Locators, and crew members
* Assist with placing pipe, conduit, cable, and other underground utility materials
* Read and follow basic job layouts, utility markings, prints, and Foreman direction
* Perform daily equipment inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns
* Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe jobsite
* Support crew members with hands-on tasks as needed
* Follow OSHA, DOT, and company safety procedures at all times

* Required Qualifications:

**** Class A CDL
* Heavy equipment operating experience
* Underground utility construction experience preferred
* Drilling or locating experience will also be considered
* Ability to safely operate equipment around existing utilities and active crews
* Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions
* Ability to follow directions and communicate clearly with the crew
* Must be willing and able to travel out of town for 2–3 weeks at a time
* Valid Driver’s License with clean driving record
* Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check

* Preferred Qualifications:

**** OSHA 10
* Experience with fiber, telecom, gas, water, sewer, pipe, conduit, or underground utility installation
* Experience operating excavators, backhoes, skid steers, trenchers, plows, loaders, or directional drilling equipment
* HDD drilling or locating experience
*** Work Environment:
**** Outdoor construction work in heat, cold, rain, snow, mud, dust, and other weather conditions
* Exposure to loud equipment, moving machinery, open trenches, traffic, insects, and general jobsite hazards
* Travel required depending on project location and business need
* Overtime, weekends, and extended workdays may be required
**
* Physical Requirements:

**** Perform physical labor and equipment operation for extended periods of time
* Sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, kneel, reach, twist, and work on uneven terrain throughout the day
* Climb in and out of equipment throughout the workday
* Frequently lift, carry, push, or pull jobsite materials, tools, and equipment
* Work in trenches, confined areas, and active construction zones as needed
* Drive or ride in a vehicle for extended periods when traveling to and from job sites
* Must have sufficient vision and hearing to identify hazards, follow instructions, read markings, and recognize alarms or warning signals
