The salary range listed in this job description is a base salary. Applicants eligible for years‑of‑service adjustments or shift differentials may exceed salary range listed above.

This position will be located at Trail of Tears State Park, 429 Moccasin Springs, Jackson, MO 63755. Standard work shift is from 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Friday to Tuesday. Days off will vary according to facility demands with some weekends required. This position will assist with maintaining Big Oak Tree State Park.

  • Responsible for performing a variety of semi-skilled work in the maintenance and repair of state buildings and facilities.
  • Work in a variety of trade areas such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, concrete and masonry, painting, welding, and mechanical repair.
  • Routine cleaning of park buildings, restrooms, and park grounds and trails.
  • Operate and maintain vehicles, lawn mowers, tractors, chainsaws, leaf blowers, and similar mechanical equipment.
  • Use basic computer skills for timekeeping, report tracking and training.
  • Assist visitors with questions about the park and surrounding area.
  • Assist with prescribed burns, wildfire suppression, herbicide application, and other natural or cultural activities as directed.
  • May train and oversee temporary employees or a crew engaged in maintenance tasks.
  • Participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.
  • Must be able to walk long distances on uneven terrain in all kinds of weather and environmental conditions and have the ability to lift 25+ pounds.
  • Other duties as needed.
  • This position may be required to obtain and maintain appropriate water/wastewater certifications, and/or other required licenses/certification. If required and if you do not currently possess this license/certification, you will be given twelve months to obtain necessary license/certification.

  • 1-3 years of experience in any of the following trade areas: electrical, plumbing, concrete, and masonry, carpentry, painting, plastering, and mechanical repair. (Additional education or experience may substitute for the required education or experience.)
Preferred Qualifications and Experience/Special

Job Requirements
  • Ability to operate a vehicle and maintain a valid vehicle operator’s license.
  • Available to work nights, weekends, holidays, evenings, and split shifts. Must work a minimum of two weekends per month during on season April through October.
  • Available to participate in meetings, workshops and seminars requiring overnight stays.
  • Must complete Level 1 prescribed fire training within 12 months of employment.
