Job Summary
Responsible for the performance of skilled painting work in both construction and maintenance activities. Work involves performance of skilled tasks within the painting trade including the application of paint, varnish, lacquer, stain and enamel to a variety of surfaces with a brush, roller or other equipment. Supportive of the Village’s mission, values, and service/hospitality (PRIDE) expectations. Completes training hours as required by policy.

Monday thru Friday, 8 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
Essential Job Functions- Assists residents and John Knox Village associates to ensure completion of work orders.
- Applies coats of paint, varnish, stain, enamel or lacquer to decorate and protect interior surfaces and trim work.
- Mixes and matches paint and stains.
- Applies paint with brush, cloth, sponge, roller and / or sprayer.
- Smoothes surfaces using sandpaper, brushes or steel work.
- Removes old paint from surfaces for painting.
- Prepares work surface – including filling holes and cracks.
- Mixes and matches paint and stains using the proper proportion of pigment, base and thinner.
- Repairs and replaces damaged doors and drywall. Sand and repair HVAC covers.
- May prepare surface for and apply wallpaper.
- Participates in environmental training and disposal of waste materials and respirator usage as needed.
- Available on‑call for emergencies, rotating weekends and evenings, and for snow removal as needed.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Handles stress well and gets along with others within the workplace and with customers outside the department.
- Maintains acceptable standards of workplace conduct.
The responsibilities described above represent the primary responsibilities of the job. Other responsibilities may be assigned by the supervisor as warranted by business needs. The incumbent is expected to perform all assigned responsibilities.
Essential QualificationsEducation:
- This position requires the level of education typically acquired by a course of study leading to a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years trade school.
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must have a valid driver’s license and proof of auto insurance.
- Must have or be able to obtain a Missouri Class E driver’s license within 30 days of hire.
Knowledge and Skills (required unless otherwise noted):
- A minimum 3 years of painting trade experience required.
- Must have knowledge of safety precautions and hazards of the painting trade, checking labels for precautions.
- Must have knowledge of the correct usage of ladders and scaffolding.
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, handbooks and procedure manuals.
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
- Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
- Must be able to interpret blueprints, construction documents, schematics and wiring diagrams.
- Handles stress well, gets along with others and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
- Basic level keyboarding required.
- The associate is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions including extreme cold temperatures typically below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour or extreme heat temperatures above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.
- The associate is subject to sufficient noise to need to shout in order to be heard above ambient noise level.
- The associate is subject to vibration of the extremities or whole body.
- The associate is subject to hazards such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, moving vehicles, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.
- The associate is subject to atmospheric conditions that affect the respiratory system of the skin:
Fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation. - The associate is subject to air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
