JOB SUMMARY:

The Course Instructor is a vital member of the College Edge summer program, which supports students in developing essential college-readiness skills. This role is responsible for delivering a structured, transition-to-college curriculum designed to enhance student self-awareness, academic strategies, and practical application of skills. The Course Instructor reports directly to the Academic Coordinator.

DUTIES AND TASKS:

* Design, plan, and deliver instructional content that aligns with program goals and student learning needs during one of the following assigned course blocks:

* Block A: 9:00 AM - 9:50 AM

* Block B: 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM

* Block C: 11:30 AM - 12:20 PM

* Facilitate classroom instruction during June 21-26, 2026 and June 29-July 2, 2026

* Attend and actively contribute to mandatory staff training sessions (July 8-10, 2026) and all other assigned staff meetings, gaining familiarity with program policies, instructional expectations, and student support strategies.

* Support program launch by attending Orientation Day (June 20, 2026) and helping to welcome students and families, introduce program components, and foster a sense of belonging.

* Maintain a thorough understanding of all program policies, expectations, and procedures, and model professional conduct throughout the duration of the program.

* Document student progress and engagement daily, or as directed, contributing to program evaluation efforts and supporting individualized student interventions.

* Work closely with the Academic Coordinator and other instructional staff to ensure consistency in curriculum delivery, student support, and program outcomes.

* Provide academic and social-emotional support to students, encouraging self-awareness, independence, and confidence in preparation for college transition.

* Carry out other duties as assigned by program leadership to support the overall success and integrity of the College Edge program.

REQUIRED

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Knowledge:

* Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or coursework in education, counseling, or a related field preferred

* Prior experience working with high school or college-bound students, particularly those with diverse learning needs (preferred)

* Understanding of college transition strategies and student development principles

Skills:

* Strong instructional design and classroom management skills

* Skilled in organizing tasks, meeting deadlines, and balancing multiple responsibilities in a fast-paced, short-term academic program.

* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with an ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, and staff in person, on the phone, and over e-mail.

* Proficiency in collecting and analyzing student performance data

Abilities:

* Demonstrated ability to foster a classroom culture that is welcoming, respectful, and responsive to the diverse academic and social-emotional needs of students.

* Capable of adjusting instructional strategies and classroom management approaches in response to evolving student needs, program goals, and feedback from leadership.

* Proven ability to work constructively with colleagues, program coordinators, and leadership to ensure instructional alignment and student success.

* Understands and adheres to ethical guidelines and confidentiality protocols when handling student data and sensitive information.

* Ability to maintain a professional and patient approach when working with students, parents, and other Beacon College community members.

* Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with diverse internal and external stakeholders.

* Availability and willingness to participate in evening and weekend on-call duties and respond to emergencies. Hours are subject to different factors including, but not limited to, enrollment, occupancy, emergencies, and other departmental needs.

* Strong ability to remain composed and maintain a clear focus during high-stress situations.
