RN Shift | Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital

Position: RN (6+) - Shift 1 | Inpatient Psychiatric Hospital
Job Purpose:

The RN position is integral to the efficient functioning of the assigned Unit. They will, by virtue of their role, be responsible for providing professional psychiatric nursing care, via own task functions and supervision of the task of other nursing personnel on their shift. Ensures all members of on his/her team provide quality and effective nursing care.

Key Responsibilities:

Consumer Assessment:
Conducting comprehensive assessments to understand consumers’ mental health status, including their history, symptoms, and current functioning.

Care Planning:
Developing and implementing individualized treatment plans based on patient needs, treatment goals, and evidence-based practices.

Medication Administration:
Administering psychiatric medications and monitoring their effects, including potential side effects.

Ability to successfully complete initial and annual Techniques for Effective Aggression Management (TEAM) physical restraint and verbal de-escalation training

Patient Advocacy:
Advocating for consumers’ needs, rights, and preferences within the behavioral health facility.

Crisis Management:
Responding to psychiatric emergencies and providing stabilization for consumers experiencing acute distress or dangerous behaviors.

Documentation:
Maintaining accurate and thorough medical records and documentation of consumer care.

Ensures client activities take place as scheduled

Respond promptly and effectively to emergency situations, providing leadership and guidance as needed.

Required

Education:

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing meeting minimum standards of the Florida State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse.

Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of practice

Required Experience:

Six plus (6+) years progressive experience in nursing

Strong understanding of psychiatric and behavioral health care practices

Excellent patient assessment and diagnostic skills

Ability to develop and implement effective care plans

Proficient in electronic medical records and healthcare technology systems

Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with patients, families, and healthcare teams

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team Strong problem-solving and critical thinking abilities

Compassionate and empathetic approach to patient care
