Marina Equipment Operator

The purpose of this class is to operate a marina forklift and mobile equipment in support of the City's marina operations. This class is responsible for moving boats to and from the water to storage, fueling boats, and driving boats as needed.

Essential Job Functions:

• Minor equipment maintenance and tasks associated with the marina.
• Operates forklift for the entering and removing of boats from Venetian Cove.
• Skill in working independently and following through on assignments with minimal supervision.
• Performs required storm water testing to meet Department of Environmental Protection Specifications.
• Performs general cleaning and maintenance tasks necessary to keep equipment, and tools in operable condition; responsible for monitoring equipment operations to ensure and maintain efficiency and safety.
• Assists the public; responds to routine questions or complaints and requests for service; initiates problem resolution.
• Perform periodic inspection to ensure Marina remains certified Clean Marina, Clean Resilient Marina, and Clean Boatyard.
• Operates mobile equipment to transport materials, tools, equipment, and personnel to job sites and operates mowers, trimmers, chain saws and tractors to remove or add debris or other materials from job sites.
• Loads and unloads materials such as gravel, dirt timbers, chemicals, or other materials, tools equipment and to deliver materials and equipment.
• Follows applicable standards and department-specific safety policies and practices.
• Operates hand and power tools and equipment to support maintenance operations such as weed cutting, debris removal, grass cutting, digging or filling, and other maintenance tasks.
• Inspects equipment and performs minor maintenance; reports malfunctions to supervisor. Performs maintenance functions such as greasing pumps, motors, shafts, and replacing valves: performs light repairs and installations as directed.
• Assists the public by answering questions and providing routine information.
• Maintains outdoor areas by cutting grass, pruning trees and bushes, raking leaves and debris, and other landscaping tasks.
• Maintains indoor areas such as cleaning facilities and indoor areas, performing light maintenance such as painting, door repairs and minor repairs.
• The ability to work weekend and evenings if needed.
• Assists with special events providing setups, cleaning and teardowns.
• Assists with traffic control and provides information to public if required
• Performs minor administrative tasks such as completing job-related logs and forms, answering phones, or providing information.
• Reports unsafe mechanical conditions to the supervisor.

Minimum Requirements:

• Requires two (2) or more years of routine manual work experience.
• Requires previous customer service skills with a positive, motivated, and friendly attitude.
• Must be able to work in an environment exposed to weather elements, some noise; must have ability to work independently and problem-solve while working alone or as part of a team.
• Must be punctual in adhering to establish start times.
• Forklift experience and knowledge of boats a plus.
• Must be flexible - willing to work a varied schedule including weekends.
• Requires a valid State of Florida driver license and satisfactory driving record as a condition of initial and continued employment.
• Candidate must complete City of Leesburg forklift safety training and environmental safety within 60 days of employment.
