Job Summary
Our Public Art Coordinator serves as a specialized program coordinator for the department, utilizing knowledge of policies and procedures to advise management on applicable regulations, and best practices related to public art. The public art coordinator will focus on developing, coordinating, and managing Loudoun County’s public art initiatives; establishing processes for acquisitions, and installations; and fostering community engagement through high‑quality public art experiences.
The coordinator works collaboratively with internal departments, local artists, community organizations, and the Loudoun Art Advisory Committee to advance the County’s vision for public art. This position must be familiar with public art management procedures. The Public Art Coordinator will support growth in PRCS Arts and Culture and the strategies outlined in the Comprehensive Arts Plan (Loudoun.gov/Arts).
We are currently hiring for the following location(s):
- PRCS, 742 Miller Drive, Leesburg, VA
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the development of public art policies, procedures, guidelines, and standards for site selection, maintenance, and public safety.
- Supports the planning, development, and execution of public art initiatives, including the artist call, selection process, installation and maintenance.
- Develops and deliver community engagement events, workshops, and informational sessions to build awareness and support for public art across Loudoun County.
- Maintains documentation of public art and arts events, along with files on artists.
- Works alongside the Arts Curator to oversee the donation and loans of public art pieces.
- Support the administration of community arts grants as needed.
- Works with the arts and culture team on procurement, inventory, and distribution of needed arts supplies.
- Stays informed regarding national, regional, and local arts agencies, programs, grants, networks, and relevant regulations about public art.
- Coordinate across PRCS and other County departments (e.g., planning, parks, facilities) to integrate public art into capital projects, parks, and public spaces.
- May carry out additional critical job responsibilities pertinent to the specific role and departmental assignment.
The position may require working during evenings, weekends, and holidays based on programming requirements.
Hiring salary commensurate with experience.
Minimum QualificationsA Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Arts, Arts Education, Curatorial Studies, Museum Studies, Public Administration) and one (1) year related work experience with some lead or supervisory experience preferred; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Qualifications- Experience with the management of public art plans.
- Experience with public art creation and on‑going management.
- Experience with event management.
- Experience with public programming and educational activities.
- One plus years of local government or nonprofit art‑specific experience.
Special Requirements
Must undergo criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. A valid driver's license and a good driving record are required (driving records may be assessed annually to ensure ongoing eligibility).
