Student Support Specialist (
* Restricted)
The Student Support Specialist provides customer service functions, enrollment and program support for NOVA Workforce. This position will be responsible to serve the students and NOVA Community at large in a timely fashion. This position is not eligible for telework.
Duties and Tasks:
- Provide quality customer service
- Identify and assess customer's needs to achieve satisfaction
- Handle customer complaints and provide appropriate resolutions and alternatives
- Perform registration tasks and/or provide guidance to students
- Enter and maintain accurate data into the student information system
- Issue enrollment confirmation emails and letters
- Troubleshoot and resolve enrollment problems
- Ensure that instructors have all instructional materials needed
- Organize and maintain files and records
- Assist program developers/managers/coordinators to ensure logistical arrangements for programs are met
- Provide general office support tasks
- Assist with the marketing of classes
Special Assignments:
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

- The ability to adapt and respond to different audiences
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills
- Ability to work cooperatively with students, instructors and staff; especially as part of a team
- Ability to work on multiple projects independently, at times under stress
- Ability to develop and prepare reports
- Ability to provide accurate information and courteous customer service
- Ability to interact effectively with internal and external customers
- Attention to detail and ability to take initiative
- Experience in Microsoft Office Suite
- Experience in an office setting with office procedures, managing files, schedules and paperwork
- Customer service and forward-facing experience
- Administrative office experience
- Must be willing to work at multiple Workforce locations due to the needs of the division
Additional Considerations:
Experience in a higher education setting. Experience working with enrollment. Experience working with under-served and underrepresented populations. Bilingual abilities are a plus.
