The Language Ambassador provides language support for English speakers in an immersion classroom, under the direction of a licensed teacher. The Language Ambassador helps to promote intercultural competence and embed culturally responsive practices that reflect and honor students’ backgrounds and language(s); and provide a safe, welcoming and affirming environment.
Roles and Responsibilities- Contributes to the partner language learning of students whose first language is English and allows for students to use their communicative skills on a larger scale
- Carries out designated assignments to assist in classroom activities
- Assists in supervising student behavior
- Collaborates with the teacher in creating classroom activities and materials
- With the supervision and approval of the teacher, may initiate daily assignments, follow through on matters, and use training to take appropriate actions to deal with standard recurring situations
High school diploma and post-secondary coursework in child development or related field
Experience- Experience working with children
- Experience speaking and writing with native proficiency in the language of instruction (or no less than advanced mid language proficiency, according to the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages Oral Proficiency Interview and Writing Proficiency Test)

Knowledge,Skills and Abilities
- Ability to provide cognitively stimulating instruction and promote high levels of bilingual and cultural proficiency in students with native or native-like ability in the language(s) of instruction
- Knowledge of student behavior as applied to young children
- Knowledge of the language, culture, and other characteristics of the families whose children are enrolled in Loudoun County Public Schools
- Ability to work effectively with young children
- Ability to work collaboratively with a teacher
- Ability to carry out designated instructional assignments; note, record and supervise student behavior; and supervise learning activities
