Teacher Assistant, Special Education (1:1)
Provide instructional support, training, and personal assistance to teachers of students with physical or intellectual disabilities. Work directly 1:1 with an assigned student who requires additional support.
Roles and Responsibilities- Assist the teacher by performing instructional duties, preparing classroom materials, supervising student behavior, and applying behavior management techniques under the teacher’s guidance.
- Provide individualized instructional support, presenting activities in cognitive, speech and language, fine motor, gross motor, social/emotional, and daily living skills areas.
- Collect and record student data (e.g., skill practice, seizure occurrences, toileting).
- Maintain discipline in the teacher’s absence, ensuring consistency with established procedures.
- Implement behavior modification plans as directed.
- Practice speech sounds, vocabulary, and syntax objectives; read to students and facilitate language development activities.
- Supervise learning centers during independent work and assist students with materials.
- Participate in classroom activities such as discussions and games.
- Operate computer and audiovisual equipment, including DVD players, data projectors, or smartboards.
- Perform related duties as required.
- High school diploma or GED.
- Experience as a teacher aide or working with children.
- Ability to work under teacher supervision and follow lesson plans.
- Ability to work effectively with individual children and small groups to achieve instructional objectives.
- Physical ability to lift, position, and assist students up to 25 pounds intermittently.
- Adaptability to diverse student characteristics and abilities.
- Ability to operate standard office and video equipment and perform basic medical procedures when necessary.
- Good interpersonal and communication skills; patience and flexibility.
Regular speaking or instruction delivery; normal cognitive abilities; frequent sitting or remaining stationary for extended periods; occasional exertion up to 25 pounds.

Salary Level: Scale B / Universal – Non-exempt Level 4
Salary Range: $22.47 – $25.28 per hour
