Job Description & How to Apply Below

Clean Energy Services (CES) is an independent, execution-first operations and maintenance (O&M) provider purpose-built to support complex, utility-scale battery energy storage systems (BESS). Our platform combines dedicated field teams, a 24/7 Remote Operations Center (ROC), and deep energy‑storage operating expertise to reduce operational risk, improve availability, and protect long-term asset value.

About the Site

CES is providing long-term O&M for a utility‑scale battery energy storage system in Northern Virginia. The site is a 26.5 MW / 50.15 MWh, distribution‑connected (34.5 kV) battery storage facility. Key equipment includes hydrogen batteries, EPC Power M-Series (M10) power conversion systems, and the Indie Energy SCADA/EMS platform.

Position Summary

The Battery Storage Technician – Operations & Maintenance is the dedicated on‑site technician and primary point of contact for the site. You will perform preventive and corrective maintenance, serve as first responder for alarms and abnormal conditions, and own day‑to‑day site communications and documentation — working in close coordination with the CES Remote Operations Center (ROC) and warranty management team. This is a hands‑on role for a self‑sufficient technician with the full range of skills needed to keep the site running safely, reliably, and to OEM and CES standards.

Key Responsibilities Site Operations & Coordination
  • Run day‑to‑day site operations and maintenance to keep the asset available, compliant, and running efficiently.
  • Serve as the primary on‑site point of contact, interfacing daily with the CES ROC, warranty management team, and project management.
  • On site communications, documentation, and recordkeeping — status updates, work records, and reporting inputs.
  • Coordinate on‑site subcontractors and service vendors, confirming work is performed safely and on schedule.
  • Execute the maintenance schedule, provide scope/status for each site visit, and coordinate approved site access and shutdowns.
Preventive Maintenance
  • Execute the scheduled maintenance program across the BESS, PCS, and balance‑of‑plant per OEM requirements and CES procedures.
  • Battery / BESS: module and rack inspections, BMS checks and calibration, thermal management system maintenance, DC electrical inspections (bi‑annual and annual PM scope).
  • Power Conversion System (EPC Power M10): monthly, quarterly, bi‑annual, and annual PM; cooling system maintenance; AC connection inspections; consumable (filter) replacement.
  • Collector / MV: medium‑voltage transformer PM, torque checks, cable termination inspections.
  • Perform or coordinate annual infrared (IR) / thermographic scans of all site components and connections.
Corrective Maintenance & Emergency Response
  • Provide rapid fault diagnosis, isolation, and first‑response troubleshooting for BESS, PCS, and MV equipment.
  • Perform OEM‑certified low‑level battery corrective maintenance and PCS corrective work.
  • Respond to ROC‑dispatched alarms and service requests within established response‑time targets.
  • Document root causes and corrective actions; coordinate OEM and vendor support as needed.
Safety & Compliance
  • Conduct daily tailboards, job hazard analyses (JHA), and lockout/tagout (LOTO) on MV and energized systems.
  • Maintain compliance with NFPA 855, NFPA 70E, OSHA, and site‑specific EHS requirements; exercise stop‑work authority when conditions are unsafe.
  • Support the site Emergency Response Plan (ERP) and participate in site/ERP training.
Warranty, Spare Parts & Reporting
  • Identify and document warranty issues in the field (Hithium, EPC Power, and balance‑of‑plant equipment) and log them in the work order system.
  • Support the CES warranty management team on claim execution, including balance‑of‑plant and other project equipment covered under OEM and EPC‑contract warranties.
  • Manage on‑site spare parts inventory: consumption, movement, replenishment, and condition monitoring.
  • Maintain accurate records and produce monthly reporting inputs (scheduled maintenance, labor/activity, spare parts, health & safety, equipment calibration).
  • Coordinate outage notifications with the interconnecting utility and applicable market participant/scheduler.
