Patient Care Veterinary Assistant

Job Description

Position provides care for equine patients through administration of medications and treatments, collection of specimens, monitoring vital signs, record keeping, and assisting in the preparation and performance of special procedures. The incumbent is responsible for maintaining acceptable levels of cleanliness in barns, treatment areas, and related spaces.

• Administer medications and treatments to equine patients.
• Collect specimens and monitor vital signs.
• Maintain accurate records of patient care.
• Assist in preparation and performance of special procedures.
• Ensure cleanliness and hygiene in barns and treatment areas.

• Previous equine experience and/or veterinary assistant experience.
• Basic knowledge of principles of equine care.
• Demonstrated knowledge of equine restraint and handling techniques.
• Ability to follow established protocols and procedures.
• Excellent communication skills.
• Ability to safely move and handle up to 75 lbs.
• 18 years of age or older.

• Licensed Veterinary Technician or training in animal science or a health-related field.

• Pay band 3;
  Salary 45,000 – 55,000 per year.
• Hours per week: 40+.
• Overtime status:
  Non-Exempt, eligible for overtime.
• Appointment type:
  Restricted.
