Position: Charge Nurse (RN) (PT, Nights)

Shift Differentials

Maximize your earnings with additional hourly pay:

  • +$2/hr – Monday-Thursday Nights
  • +$6/hr – Friday-Sunday Nights
  • +$2/hr – Saturday-Sunday Days
What You’ll Do

The Charge Nurse position oversees the operation, organization, and flow of recipients in the unit, including but not limited to delegating nursing assignments, overseeing admissions, transfers, and discharges. Demonstrates knowledge of Crisis Intervention and can de‑escalate potentially aggressive situations. Assists with training and orientation of new staff and oversees assigned duties of staff and documentation to meet JCAHO and OMFL standards.

  • Assists Nurse Manager and clinical leadership with the implementation of new policies/procedures and collection of necessary data for reporting (Infection Control, incidents/Medication Errors, Injuries, and Staffing issues).
  • Actively assess work area for non‑compliance issues and notify Nurse Manager and/or Director of Nursing with identified concerns.
  • RN responsibilities are met and abide by company policy. Perform all essential functions of a Registered Nurse as needed.
  • Monitor the observation, inpatient unit, and lobby area to coordinate care and safety issues with the Lead BHS.
  • Collaborate with other members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure a smooth flow of admissions, discharges, and transfers.
  • Ensure coverage for any RN/LPN call‑offs for the oncoming shift; report lack of coverage to Nurse Manager. Ensure all nursing staff on shift remain in compliance with required trainings.
  • Utilize de‑escalation procedures and theories to assist in providing a safe milieu.
  • Utilize skills effectively to describe and demonstrate roles and responsibilities related to safety. Review seclusion/restraint packet and assist with corrections.
  • Complete reviews and audits of staff documentation to determine compliance with JCHAO and OMFL standards.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
What You’ll Bring
  • Graduation from an accredited Nursing Program
  • At least 3‑5 years of psychiatric, behavioral health, or relevant experience
  • At least 1‑2 years of supervisory experience
  • Unrestricted license as a Registered Nurse through the Virginia State Board of Nursing or multistate licensure privilege
  • Must be able to perform Safe Clinch patient restraint techniques
  • American Heart Association BLS
  • Complete all credentialing requirements within the required time period, including but not limited to obtaining a National Provider Identifier (NPI), Medallion enrollment, Medicare enrollment, and any other necessary credentials as required for the role
  • Company has a mandatory vaccination policy. All successful applicants must be fully vaccinated, including showing proper documentation or otherwise be exempt pursuant to the company’s exemption process prior to their start date as a condition of employment
  • State of Virginia Fingerprint Clearance
  • Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Behavioral Health & Developmental Services (VA DBHDS) background check
  • Must be able to pass Virginia Department of Social Services (VA DSS) Office of Background Investigations – Central Registry Search
  • Must be able to obtain a Food Handlers Card for the State of Virginia (BHS/RSS positions)
  • Physical Requirements
    • Safely perform physical interventions (e.g., standing, pivoting, reaching, kneeling, lowering to the floor, and supporting another person’s weight)
    • Lift, push, pull, or carry up to 50 lbs. occasionally
    • Tolerate prolonged walking, standing, and observation in a fast‑paced environment
    • Work with individuals who may exhibit agitation, aggression, or unpredictable behavior
It Would Be Great If You Had
  • Previous emergency room or crisis psychiatric care experience
  • Familiarity with Civil Commitment processes
  • Bachelor’s degree in nursing
