Part Time Cake Decorator

This is a part-time position. Primary responsibility is to take excellent care of our customers by satisfying each customer's needs and exceeding expectations. This requires a defined level of product knowledge, food preparation skills, sales ability, customer relations skills, and cooperation with fellow associates to create an incredible place to work and shop.

• Initiate interaction with customers on the sales floor and sales counter, ask questions regarding their needs, provide information, and follow through on requests.
• Maintain the highest level of customer service, never be rude, and bring in department management if a customer request cannot be met.
• Make eye contact with and smile at every customer, speak in a genuine, clear, and enthusiastic manner, and ask if they found everything they were looking for.
• Reflect an appropriate business image through dressing, grooming, and personal cleanliness standards during business hours or when representing Harris Teeter.
• Be reliable and punctual; report for work on time and notify the supervisor or manager-on-duty at least two hours in advance if late or absent.
• Neatly decorate cakes and bakery items and create party trays according to standards and customer specifications.
• Obtain or prepare food items requested by customers at the counter.
• Bake, fry, broil, and/or roast poultry, pork, beef, and other meats according to standards.
• Prepare, weigh, price, date, wrap, and package products according to standards.
• Operate necessary equipment to effectively prepare and portion products according to standards and/or customer specifications.
• Communicate in English with customers and fellow associates regarding requests, current sales promotions, marketing campaigns, and essential products; escort customers to product locations.
• Answer telephones professionally and respond to hold calls promptly; write orders as needed.
• Sell only fresh products in compliance with Harris Teeter standards regarding product preparation, merchandising, rotation, dating, and markdowns; comply with Food Safety policy (RO-37).
• Ensure all appropriate Fresh Foods products are refrigerated properly; check temperatures of product cases and coolers.
• Keep shelves properly stocked by blocking product according to standards, maximizing sales and minimizing shrink; work backstock regularly and process close‑dated and damaged products.
• Check merchandising displays regularly to ensure advertised items and samples are available; prepare, display, and offer daily samples.
• Inform management of lack of advertised items, incorrect prices, missing signs, departmental changes, and other relevant situations.
• Unload product from truck, place in coolers per Fresh Foods Receiving and Rotation standards; load salvage on truck as required and remove products from storage.
• Keep the store clean: comply with Health Department and Department of Agriculture standards, sanitize prep rooms and coolers, keep counters and food contact surfaces clean, wipe refrigerator glass and windows, sweep and mop floors, empty garbage, and keep displays merchandised and neat.
• Perform fixed activities when business is light (sweeping, cleaning, blocking, straightening, emptying trash, etc.).
• Understand overall Fresh Foods Department operation; complete paperwork accurately and maintain proper records; assist in inventory and price change processes.
• Follow all safety regulations, keep the store free of dangerous situations, and immediately inform management of accidents and safety hazards; record accidents and hazards in the designated log.
• Ensure chemicals are handled, mixed, and applied according to the Hazard Communication Program Manual.
• Adapt to various situations, adjust to shifting priorities, be flexible, perform multiple tasks, balance taking direction with initiative, and demonstrate the flexibility required to accomplish duties of the entire shift.
• Provide assistance to fellow associates for daily tasks such as unloading trucks, checking deliveries, taking inventory, restocking and organizing displays, and other duties as assigned.
