Job SummaryUnder the general direction of the designated supervisor, provides support for Public Works operations. This position maintains pavement, manufactures and installs street signs, maintains stormwater structures and channels, operates tools, vehicles, and equipment, and supports County emergency operations. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Performs Public Works construction and maintenance.
- Inspects and performs routine maintenance and repairs on water, wastewater, and stormwater systems.
- Manufactures, installs, and replaces street signs.
- Removes snow and ice from sidewalks, parking lots, and County facilities.
- Operates and maintains tools, machinery and equipment in compliance with safety standards.
- Supports County emergency operations and assist the Board of Elections with equipment setup, transportation, and logistics.
High school diploma or equivalent with training and/or coursework related to position, supplemented by some specialized training in Public Works infrastructure and one (1) year of experience in Public Works maintenance, heavy equipment operation or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Job Contingencies andSpecial Requirements
This position requires criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. A valid driver's license and good driving record are required. (Driving records may be reviewed annually for continued qualification.) A valid Class "B" CDL is preferred. If currently a CDL holder, successful candidate must pass pre-employment drug/alcohol screening, meet annual CDL/DOT requirements, and pass required drug/alcohol tests. The successful candidate must be able to work in extreme temperatures and lift up to 70lbs, may be required to work outside of normal working hours and during County emergencies, and performs snow removal operations as directed.
This position is considered "Essential."
