Domestic Violence Pretrial/Probation Officer

The Department of Community Corrections is currently seeking qualified applicants for a Domestic Violence Pretrial/Probation Officer to work as part of the Domestic Violence Unit and collaborate effectively with the Pretrial and Probation Divisions, as well as the Electronic Monitoring Team. Duties include supervising pretrial defendants and offenders charged with and/or convicted of domestic violence offenses referred by the Magistrate and Courts.

The selected candidate will be responsible for conducting both pretrial and probation intakes, supervising pretrial defendants and probation offenders, performing criminal history record and background checks and risk assessments, administering drug tests, coordinating supervision of electronic monitoring, conducting substance abuse and domestic violence assessments regarding risk and lethality, making appropriate treatment referrals, collaborating with the Victim Outreach Officer and treatment providers, submitting reports to the Court, attending domestic violence dockets and probation review hearings, bond revocations/arraignments, violation hearings, and testifying in court, as required.

Hiring salary will be commensurate with experience.

The position requires education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice, Sociology, Psychology, or related field, and a minimum of two years of work-related experience within the criminal justice or counseling field. Candidate must have a comprehensive understanding of trauma and the dynamics of intimate partner violence and previous experience working within a domestic violence program or working directly with domestic violence defendants/offenders.

Must possess a valid operator's license. Spanish proficiency preferred.

Successful candidate must undergo and pass a criminal background check. Annual DMV record check will be required. This position will work within the Department's Domestic Violence Division. The incumbent must be willing to supervise criminal defendants and probationers in an office setting and perform occasional residential visits, as needed. Must be willing to work with domestic violence defendants/probationers with violent tendencies, as well as victims/survivors of intimate partner/domestic violence.

Must be willing to monitor and collect urine and alcohol breath tests to detect illegal drug or alcohol use. Must have strong writing skills and be able to compile facts and information into concise and accurate reports for submission to the Courts. The successful candidate will have strong communication skills to interact professionally with representatives from the legal community such as Commonwealth's Attorneys, Police Officers, Defense Attorneys, the Domestic Abuse Response Team (DART), Judges and Court Personnel.

VCIN certification is required; selected candidate will obtain certification within 90 days of hire.
