Job Description

High school Volleyball coaching position. Season runs Fall:
August - November.

Responsibilities as Head Coach
  • Assist in maintaining high academic standards for all student athletes.
  • Assist the athletic director and principal in the hiring and/or retention of assistant coaches.
  • Direct, supervise, and evaluate regularly the performance of all assistant coaches of the sport.
  • Work cooperatively with the athletic director to assure proper insurance coverage for all athletes.
  • Work cooperatively with other head athletic coaches to operate a well-balanced athletic program.
  • Foster among the participants and spectators an appreciation of the values of athletics, a desire to win, an attitude of good sportsmanship, and a sense of pride in self, team, school, and community.
  • Direct the training, conditioning, and performance of the varsity team and lead, supervise, and assist the assistant coaches in their efforts with assigned teams.
  • Act as a positive influence upon the behavior of staff and team members.
  • Be present and personally direct the team at all varsity contests and at as many junior varsity and freshmen contests as possible; supervise athletes at invitational meets or post-season competition.
  • Advise the athletic director on schedule preparation, official selection and evaluations, equipment and supplies, and inventory and care of equipment.
  • Advise on athletic facilities condition and maintenance needs.
  • Assist the athletic director to ensure eligibility lists are prepared and maintained under VHSL rules.
  • Recommend removal of athletes from teams when training or eligibility regulations are not met.
  • Ensure all athletes complete medical examinations before the regular practice season begins.
  • Organize a system to encourage student tryouts, recruit equipment managers, scorekeepers, statisticians, ball runners, etc. for all teams.
  • Collect and file records, statistics, news items, and photographs for the teams.
  • Recommend students who qualify for a varsity letter or junior varsity/freshman certificate.
  • Recommend prospective coaches as requested.
  • Observe sub varsity practices and games.
  • Perform other duties related to the head athletic coach position as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.
Responsibilities as Assistant Coach
  • Work cooperatively with the head athletic coach to operate a well-structured program.
  • Work cooperatively with the athletic department.
  • Attend all staff meetings prescribed by the head athletic coach during the season.
  • Carry out specific duties designated by the head athletic coach.
  • Recommend equipment and supplies needed for the implementation of a sports program.
  • Recommend suggested disciplinary actions for players violating training rules and procedures.
  • Foster among athletes a desire to win, good sportsmanship, and pride in themselves, the school, and the community.
  • Perform other duties related to the assistant athletic coach position as requested by the high school principal and/or athletic director.
Qualifications
  • Coaching experience or participation in the sport at the high school or college level.
  • Completion of CPR and First Aid training or enrollment in a current CPR and First Aid training course.
  • Preferred: experience as a teacher or classified employee in Loudoun County Public Schools.
  • Preferred: candidate for a Virginia Teaching License or a full-time classified employee for Loudoun County Public Schools.
