Special Education Para‑Educator II
Non‑contract position, no benefits.
Hourly rate: $17.58. Hours per day: 29 per week.
The job of SpEd Para II is to provide support under the direction of an assigned classroom teacher. Responsibilities include supervising, caring for, and instructing special needs students in regular or self‑contained classrooms; implementing instruction plans; monitoring behavior; and communicating with school personnel.
Essential Functions- Adapts classroom activities, assignments, and/or materials under the direction of the supervising teacher for the purpose of supporting and reinforcing classroom objectives and IEP goals.
- Administers immediate first aid and medical assistance as instructed by a health care professional to meet immediate health care needs.
- Assists students with self‑care activities to maintain personal hygiene.
- Attends job‑specific trainings for the purpose of acquiring and conveying information relative to job functions.
- Collects data to support teachers in the classroom and prepare reports or processing forms.
- Communicates with supervising instructional staff and professional support personnel to assist in evaluating progress and implementing IEP objectives.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team for students with behavior disorders or other special conditions under the supervision of an assigned teacher to present and reinforce learning concepts and acquire appropriate social and school skills.
- Maintains instructional materials and records for the purpose of ensuring availability and meeting mandated requirements.
- Monitors students during assigned periods within a variety of school environments to maintain a safe and positive learning environment.
- Provides instruction to students in individual and group activities under the supervision of an assigned teacher to reinforce instructional objectives and implement IEP plans.
- Attends meetings and in‑service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and conveying job‑related information.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
- Age sixteen years or older.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Job‑related experience desired.
