Summary Of Responsibilities
  • Designs and teaches courses related to occupational therapy assistant practice, including therapeutic interventions, activities of daily living (ADLs), and clinical skills training.
  • Plans, prepares, and implements approved course curricula with measurable learning objectives aligned to OTA program standards and competencies.
  • Develops instructional materials such as course outlines, syllabi, exams, lab activities, simulations, visual aids, and clinical instruction guides.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises students individually and in groups in classroom, lab, and simulated or clinical environments using effective teaching methodologies.
  • Evaluates student learning and clinical competency using appropriate assessment tools, exams, skills check-offs, and performance-based evaluations.
  • Maintains a student-centered approach that supports broad learning needs, encourages engagement, and fosters professional development.
  • Assesses student readiness and recommends progression, remediation, or graduation based on academic and clinical performance.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant documentation related to student attendance, performance, clinical hours, and outcomes.
  • Coordinates and supports fieldwork or cooperative clinical experiences for OTA students, including communication with clinical sites and supervision as assigned.
  • Collaborates with counselors, program directors, faculty, and healthcare partners to support program effectiveness and student success.
  • Adheres to institutional policies regarding academic integrity, academic freedom, and professional responsibilities.
  • Ensures a safe, organized, and effective learning environment in classrooms, labs, and clinical training settings, following all safety and regulatory standards.
Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications
  • Must hold current occupational therapy licensure as an Occupational Therapist (OT) or Occupational Therapy Assistant (OTA).
  • Must be eligible for licensure in the state of Utah if not already licensed.
  • Minimum of an associate degree required for Occupational Therapy Assistants.
  • At least three years of clinical practice experience as an OT or OTA.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred, particularly for didactic or lecture-based teaching responsibilities.
  • Experience in the specific content area being taught is preferred.
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Extensive knowledge of occupational therapy principles, clinical practices, and course content relevant to OTA education, including therapeutic interventions, patient care techniques, and evidence-based practice.
  • Proficient in applying a wide range of instructional strategies and teaching techniques to support hands‑on skill development and clinical reasoning.
  • Extensive knowledge of student and patient management, including motivation strategies, behavior management, and effective evaluation of learner or patient progress in both academic and clinical settings.
  • Extensive knowledge of instructional evaluation, curriculum development, and OTA program planning, including the ability to assess and enhance training effectiveness and align with accreditation standards and professional competencies.
