Job Overview

Northrop Grumman Defense Systems is seeking a Technical Services Sr. Principal Engineer (T04 level) located in Roy, Utah, supporting the Sentinel program.

Key Responsibilities

The selected candidate will work within a team to perform all phases of ADDIE for a new training system supporting the United States Air Force, collaborating with SMEs and multiple teams to identify training gaps.

Responsibilities include:

  • Leverage adult learning theory to architect instructional strategies that drive measurable performance improvement across complex training programs.
  • Analyze and evaluate knowledge and skill gaps to identify training tasks and develop appropriate learning solutions.
  • Design and develop training products for multiple modalities, including online, in‑person, hybrid, synchronous and asynchronous formats.
  • Develop a comprehensive suite of training materials— instructor‑led sessions, microlearning modules, interactive online courses, and on‑the‑job qualification/certification programs.
  • Apply SCORM standards and curriculum design experience.
  • Write technical training content and CDRL documents.
  • Use digital instructional design software (Camtasia, Storyline, Adobe Captivate/Creative Suite).
  • Apply multimedia design (audio/video editing, animation, software simulation).
  • Identify appropriate learning theories and implement them throughout development.
  • Stay current with emerging learning theories, software tools, and industry standards to enhance training.
  • May evaluate or oversee contractors/vendors for courseware development.
  • Lead a team of junior training system employees.
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Human Performance, Training and Learning Development, Psychology, Marketing, or related field with 8 years of related experience.
  • Master’s degree with 6 years of experience (or PhD with 4 years).
  • U.S. Citizenship with ability to obtain DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience designing and developing learning materials for technical disciplines.
  • Experience developing technology‑based learning products.
  • Experience creating formative and summative evaluations for technical disciplines.
  • Experience conducting training evaluations in accordance with Kirkpatrick 4 levels and Phillips 5 levels.
  • Experience working in ADDIE and other training development models for technical disciplines.
  • Experience applying adult learning theories and process‑driven instructional design principles.
  • Ability to travel 10% of the time.
  • Experience executing and delivering training system products on large DoD military programs.

  • Knowledge of human performance processes to break down knowledge and skill gaps.
  • Experience conducting evaluations with Kirkpatrick and Phillips models.

Compensation

Primary Level Salary Range: $ – $. Salary determined based on scope, responsibilities, experience, education, skills, and market conditions. Additional compensation may include overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and, for senior positions, long‑term incentives.
