Student Employment – TRIO Student Support Services; SSS -Study Specialist

TRIO SSS seeks students interested in supporting TRIO SSS participants as a mentor and peer leader. Our goal is to provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide students toward study practices, success strategies and aides that help them excel both inside and outside of college. Position available starting 7/6/2026.

• Answer general student questions
• Attend peer leader meetings and trainings
• Understand details of each TRIO program at SLCC
• Perform outreach, provide customer service, facilitate workshops/activities, and other duties as assigned
• Motivate and encourage new participants
• Create a welcoming environment for new and continuing participants
• Articulate the purpose of TRIO to new and potential students
• Feel comfortable using the SLCC Catalog, Degree Works and class registration platforms
• Be punctual and dependable
• Participate in ongoing professional development sessions
• Facilitate and participate in ongoing TRIO workshops, events, and activities
• Communicate effectively with a broad range of diverse people, cultures, ethnic backgrounds, and maintain good working relationships across the College
• Work with all groups in a diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic background of community college students, faculty and staff, including those with disabilities

• GPA of 2.0 or higher
• Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for the fall semester
• Currently enrolled in 6 credit hours for the spring semester
• Awarded Federal Work Study program
• Completed the FAFSA
• Be able to use Microsoft Suite
