Position: TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) Peer Leader – Specialist II (P/T)

TRIO SSS seeks students interested in supporting TRIO SSS participants as a mentor and peer leader. Our goal is to provide a productive, welcoming, and inclusive learning environment that will guide students toward study practices, success strategies, and aides that help them excel both inside and outside of college.

This position will be available on July 6, 2026.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Assist with outreach and recruitment/tabling efforts for the TRIO SSS Program.
  • Support workshops, orientations, campus events, and student engagement activities.
  • Contact students through phone calls, emails, text messages, and other approved communication methods.
  • Help maintain student records and program documentation while ensuring confidentiality.
  • Provide referrals to campus resources and services as appropriate.
  • Assist with social media, marketing materials, and program promotions.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and professional development opportunities.
  • Support front desk operations and general office duties as assigned.
  • Represent TRIO SSS professionally and inclusively.
  • Participate in TRIO SSS research.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and Google Workspace applications.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Current or former participant of the TRIO Student Support Services Program.
  • Experience in leadership, mentoring, tutoring, customer service, or student engagement activities.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
  • Knowledge of campus resources and student support services.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate fellow students.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success.
  • Working conditions include office and campus‑based work environment, frequent interaction with students, faculty, staff, and community members, and occasional evening or weekend events.
Position Requirements
  • Maximum of 20 hours per week.
  • Current SLCC student.
  • Must qualify for federal work‑study.
  • Have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
  • Be able to use the Microsoft suite.
