Job SummaryAt Northrop Grumman we develop revolutionary systems that impact people’s lives worldwide. The selected candidate will work within a team to perform all phases of the ADDIE model for a new training system supporting the United States Air Force. Responsibilities include collaborating with subject‑matter experts, analyzing training knowledge gaps, and designing SCORM‑compliant courseware that meets Kirkpatrick’s evaluation levels.
Primary Responsibilities- Leverage adult learning theory to architect instructional strategies that drive measurable performance improvement across complex training programs.
- Analyze and evaluate knowledge and skill gaps to identify training tasks and develop appropriate learning solutions.
- Design and develop training products for multiple modalities, including online, in‑person, hybrid, synchronous, and asynchronous formats.
- Develop a comprehensive suite of training materials— instructor‑led sessions, microlearning modules, interactive online courses, and on‑the‑job qualification/certification programs.
- Utilize current SCORM standards for curriculum design and maintain compliance throughout the lifecycle.
- Write technical training documentation and create CDRLs.
- Employ digital instructional design software (e.g., Camtasia, Storyline, Adobe Captivate/Creative Suite) and multimedia design tools for audio/video editing, animation, and simulation.
- Identify appropriate learning theories based on analysis and implement them during development.
- Stay at the forefront of training research, monitor emerging theories, software tools, and industry standards, and translate insights into strategic enhancements.
- Evaluate and/or oversee contractors or vendors to develop training courseware.
- Lead a team of junior training system employees.
- Travel as required (10% of the time).
- Bachelor of Science in Instructional Systems Design, Instructional Technology, Human Performance, Training and Learning Development, Psychology, Marketing, or a related field; with 12 years of related experience.
- Master’s degree – 10 years of related experience.
- Ph.D. – 8 years of related experience.
- U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain U.S. DoD Secret Level clearance and the ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) approval within a reasonable period.
- Experience developing learning materials for technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to leverage adult learning theories to architect instructional strategies that drive measurable performance improvement across complex training programs.
- Experience in analyzing and evaluating knowledge and skill gaps to develop appropriate learning solutions.
- Proficiency in designing curricula using instructional strategies selected through rigorous analysis, embedding theory throughout development, and maintaining SCORM compliance.
- Directing multimedia production—including audio/video editing, 2D/3D design, animation, and software simulations—to enhance engagement and retention.
- Using multiple instructional development software tools.
- Applying adult learning theories and process‑driven instructional design principles.
- Conducting training evaluations in accordance with Kirkpatrick 4 levels and Phillips 5 levels.
- Evaluating, selecting, and overseeing external contractors or vendors, establishing rigorous RFP processes and quality control checkpoints to ensure delivery quality and schedule.
- Executing and delivering training system products on large DoD military programs.
- Leading teams of junior training system employees.
- Willingness to travel 10% of the time.
- Active DoD Secret clearance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of human performance processes to break down knowledge and skill gaps and identify appropriate learning solutions.

Salary range: $ – $. Overtime, shift differential, discretionary bonuses, and long‑term incentives may also apply.
Standard work schedule is a 9/80—nine‑hour days Monday through Thursday and every other Friday off.
