Special Education Essential Elements Classroom Technician – Lane 3, $19.52 per hour, 5.75 hours per day, 5 days per week, 177 days per year. Must be at least 18 years of age to apply.
Placement on the salary schedule will be reviewed by a supervisor and finalized through the Human Resources and Payroll Departments. Candidates already employed with Nebo School District applying for a new position with a lane increase may see a decrease in overall steps in the new position if offered and accepted, and if not in the same job category.

Purpose StatementThe job of Instructional Technician – Essential Elements Classroom is done for the purpose of assisting in the supervision, care and instruction of students with significant disabilities under the supervision of a certificated teacher; observing and documenting student progress; supporting language devices; supporting motor‑development devices; implementing educational and specific behavioral plans; documenting students' daily activities; modeling appropriate behaviors and interactions with students and staff;
providing alternate curriculum and modifications; and assisting students by providing for special health care needs.
- Modifies classroom activities, assignments and/or materials as directed to provide opportunities for all special education students to perform at different levels and/or with different functional limitations in the essential elements of instructional programs.
- Administers daily‑living care, personal care, and medical and non‑medical assistance (e.g., diapering, tube feeding, colostomy bags, medication) for the purpose of providing appropriate care and developing children’s daily living activities and behavioral skills.
- Collaborates with teachers to fulfill students IEP goals.
- Implements behavioral plans designed by the IEP team to help meet special education students’ needs and provide a consistent learning environment.
- Implements essential elements of academic instruction for individuals or small groups (e.g., cooking, math, reading, spelling, music) to meet learning goals, as described by an IEP and/or district benchmarks.
- Maintains instructional materials and/or student records (adapting/modifying materials, checking papers, attendance, audio‑visual equipment, setting up art/science projects, data collection) to ensure availability of items and provide reliable information.
- Monitors special education students (lunch, school bus loading zones, playground, classroom, field trips, assemblies, kitchen) to provide a safe and positive learning environment and cover for a teacher when called out of the room.
- Participates in meetings and in‑service presentations (personal care training, daily‑living skills, emergency procedures, behavioral intervention training) to acquire and convey information relevant to job functions.
- Documents personal care and/or behavioral service logs for Medicaid reimbursement.
- Provides teacher assistance in alternate national, state, and district assessments within limits set by the test publisher manual and ethical guidelines.
- Performs other related duties as assigned to ensure efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
Minimum Qualifications
