Description

The HR Generalist will play a key role in supporting and executing core Human Resources operations, compliance, and employee lifecycle processes. This position will report directly into the Finance department and will be responsible for managing essential HR operations functions, ensuring strong HR compliance practices across multiple states, and supporting employee experience initiatives across the organization.

This role requires a highly organized, detail-oriented HR professional with strong working knowledge of HR compliance requirements, employee relations best practices, and process improvement. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, can operate independently, and is comfortable partnering cross-functionally with leadership and employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Own and manage day-to-day HR operations including onboarding, offboarding, employee documentation, and personnel file maintenance
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws and HR regulatory requirements across multiple jurisdictions
  • Maintain and manage multistate HR compliance requirements including wage and hour rules, leave policies, and required workplace postings
  • Administer and track I-9 compliance, E-Verify, and employment eligibility recordkeeping
  • Support payroll administration processes in coordination with Finance and external vendors, ensuring multistate payroll accuracy
  • Administer employee benefits programs, including enrollments, terminations, employee questions, and vendor coordination
  • Manage HRIS and employee data integrity, ensuring accurate records, reporting, and audit readiness
  • Serve as a point of contact for employee questions regarding policies, benefits, leave, and HR processes
  • Coordinate and support leave of absence administration (FMLA, ADA accommodations, parental leave, state-specific leave programs, etc.)
  • Support employee relations matters, including documentation, manager coaching support, and issue escalation as needed Maintain and update HR policies, handbook documentation, and internal HR process guides to reflect multistate requirements
  • Partner with Finance leadership to support HR budgeting, workforce planning, and headcount reporting
  • Support performance management cycles, including review timelines, documentation, and employee/manager communications
  • Support recruiting and hiring workflows as needed, including job postings, interview scheduling, and offer documentation
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline HR workflows, improve employee experience, and reduce organizational risk
  • Assist with HR reporting and metrics tracking (headcount, turnover, compliance items, training completion, etc.)
  • Support day-to-day office operations to ensure a smooth and welcoming workplace environment, including greeting unexpected visitors, answering the door as needed, ordering and stocking office snacks and supplies, and coordinating basic office needs and vendor support

Requirements

Qualifications
  • 3–6 years of HR Generalist experience with a strong focus on HR operations and compliance.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting HR compliance for a multistate workforce
  • Strong working knowledge of federal and state employment laws, wage and hour requirements, and leave regulations
  • Experience supporting benefits administration and coordinating with payroll processes/vendors
  • Proficiency with HRIS platforms (Paylocity preferred) and employee record management systems
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; ability to manage multiple priorities independently
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to interact effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work cross-functionally with Finance, leadership, and employees to drive operational efficiency
  • Experience in a startup, high-growth, or lean HR environment strongly preferred
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field preferred (or equivalent experience)
  • SHRM-CP, PHR, or similar certification preferred but not required
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while working at a computer
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds (files, office supplies, equipment)
