Dir of AI/Technology (hybrid – UT)

Perm ($160k - $200k)

Job Description:

Overview

Our client is building a modern, technology-driven operating model across a growing network of tax, accounting, and financial services firms. We are seeking a Director of Technology & AI to deliver measurable productivity gains by embedding AI, automation, integrations, and process redesign into daily workflows across Hold Co and partner firms. This is a hands‑on, builder role focused on implementation rather than full‑time coding.

You will configure and integrate tools, design automated workflows, and develop lightweight solutions (e.g., scripts, internal utilities, prompts, and glue code). You will also identify and prioritize high‑ROI initiatives and drive adoption through training and documentation. The role blends technology, operations, and change management, with success measured by scalable, repeatable improvements adopted across multiple firms.

Key Responsibilities
  • AI Governance:
Define foundational AI standards, including data handling, confidentiality, acceptable use, and review procedures appropriate for professional services.
  • Hold Co Efficiency:
Understand the company operating rhythms and continuously eliminate low‑value work through automation and better tools.
  • Practical AI:
Embed AI into daily workflows to drive measurable productivity gains, with proper safeguards and quality checks.
  • OpCo Enablement:
Collaborate with firm leaders to modernize workflows in line with their tools, client commitments, and compliance requirements, then convert successful approaches into repeatable playbooks.
  • Workflow Optimization:
Map end‑to‑end processes, uncover bottlenecks, rework, and handoffs, and implement improvements through tool configuration, automation, workflow redesign, and AI support.
  • Repeatable Playbooks:
Document effective initiatives clearly—what to do, how to do it, and how to measure success—for fast adoption across firms.
  • Change Management:
Drive adoption through rollout plans, training, documentation, and iterative improvements based on feedback and metrics.
  • Automation & Integration:
Apply automation across systems (documents, spreadsheets, email, calendars, project tools, and line‑of‑business platforms) and build lightweight integrations or utilities when standard tools fall short (scripts, webhooks, small apps, glue services).
  • Backlog & Delivery:
Maintain a simple internal automation backlog with ROI estimates; deliver short cycles and track results.
  • Operational Patterns:
Establish repeatable workflows for document generation, data intake, reporting, and internal support.
Qualifications Required
  • 5+ years designing and implementing technology solutions that improve operations, including automation, integrations, internal tools, analytics, or products.
  • Hands‑on ability to build and deploy practical workflows, automations, and lightweight tools.
  • Experience operationalizing AI in real workflows, with attention to quality, safety, and adoption.
  • Skilled at translating complex operational challenges into actionable solutions; comfortable collaborating with leaders and frontline teams.
  • Strong judgment and prioritization consistently focused on measurable ROI and effective change management.
Preferred
  • Background in or related to accounting, tax, financial operations, or professional services technology.
  • Experience in multi‑entity organizations (holding companies, roll‑ups, or PE‑backed platforms) and scaling playbooks across teams.
  • Familiarity with accounting‑firm and back‑office systems, including document management, practice management, time & billing, and tax/audit tools.
  • Proficiency with data (SQL, spreadsheets), APIs, and basic security and privacy practices.
