Description

Join a high-performing, tight-knit team at a fast-growing company using the Internet of Things (IoT) to transform how organizations maintain compliance, enhance safety, and reimagine operations. Smart Sense by Digi and Jolt are trusted by some of the world’s most recognizable brands including CVS Health, Walgreens, Walmart, McDonald’s, Jack in the Box, Hartford Health Care, and Children’s Minnesota to protect their operations and the people they serve.

We’re looking for team-oriented change agents who want to help shape the future of IoT.

What We Offer

As a Principal Mobile Engineer, you’ll build and scale a React Native mobile app that powers high-throughput, mission-critical operational workflows—integrating deeply with a variety of hardware devices (printers, weight-scales, probes, etc.) used in real-world, high-pressure retail and restaurant environments. Your work will directly impact speed, accuracy, and operational efficiency on the front lines.

What You Will Do

  • Own major portions of the React Native app, building features that prioritize reliability, performance, and usability in real-world store environments.
  • Collaborate across product, design, backend, QA, and support to turn real customer constraints into pragmatic, scalable solutions.
  • Lead technical decision-making on architecture, state management, data flow, observability, testing strategy, and mobile performance tuning.
  • Mentor engineers and raise engineering quality, contributing to code reviews, technical standards, and system design discussions.
  • Continuously reduce friction and failure modes, improving crash-free sessions, offline behavior, and end-to-end system trust.
  • Optimize print performance and label quality, ensuring fast print times, accurate rendering, and consistent output for retail-grade use cases.

Who You Are and What You Bring

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience designing complex systems that take into account requirements for security, scalability, and reliability
  • Strong system design instincts: you write maintainable, testable, and scalable code with clean boundaries and thoughtful state management.
  • Strong servant-leadership skills to help mentor and raise the engineering bar
  • Support mission critical applications through a high level of ownership, professionalism and discipline
  • A product-oriented mindset—you care about making systems reliable, fast, and intuitive for operators in busy, real-world environments.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to influence architecture, roadmap decisions, and engineering standards across teams.
  • Experience with AI optimized development workflows

Desired But Not Required

  • Native mobile experience (Swift/Objective-C or Kotlin/Java), especially for Bluetooth, USB, background processing, or device services.
  • Experience designing offline-first mobile systems, durable sync pipelines, or queue-based workflows.
  • Experience with Node.js or backend services supporting mobile clients.
  • Mobile CI/CD (Fastlane, Gitlab CI, automated releases, E2E testing).
