About This Position
While our Sr. Specialist Application Engineers are involved in multiple aspects throughout the Technology organization, primarily they are responsible for working with the Technology and Business teams to design, build, and implement effective web and process applications. These Team Members also assist the Client Success department in resolving issues related to production processes. The Sr. Specialist Application Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and resolving technical issues as well.
WhatYou'll Do
- Propose technical solutions to the Manager, Application Engineering
- Design, develop, test, and implement improvements or new features into the Waystar website and core processing applications
- Develop or augment applications based on functional and technical specifications
- Adhere to Waystar coding standards and approved technologies, and propose amendments when necessary
- Unit‑test all changes on development and collaborate with Business and/or Technology owners to ensure the solution meets business requirements
- Communicate development progress daily to senior-level team members
- Address work items assigned through the internal case system in a timely manner
- Take ownership of work items, communicate estimates and daily progress as part of the SDLC, and actively resolve blocking issues
- Assist in the QA process
- Participate in Production Code Turn Days, providing instructions for deploying code changes successfully, and for Smoke Testing code post‑release
- Maintain open and fluid communication with Management
- Maintain a positive relationship with other team members
- Assist in the creation and approval of technical specifications
- Identify areas in the application that require refactoring
- Work with various departments to design and implement enhancements to the existing web application, including SQL table design, stored procedure design, and process design in the designated programming language
- Track changes required by development using internal tools, and communicate to the QA Team any abnormalities necessary to move the changes through the stages to production
- Identify and inform the Manager, Application Engineering of areas that can be improved through refactoring, optimization, or other technology solutions
- Notify the Manager, Application Engineering of any problems that negatively impact applications and work to implement a solution
- Coordinate with the Manager, Application Engineering to reassign items that cannot be addressed in a timely fashion
- Provide estimates for project tasks using an internal project tool, and update the estimates as needed
- Solve complex technical problems with little oversight
- Mentor fellow team members in their development as Application Engineers, helping them build correct technical solutions
- Perform additional duties as assigned
- 6+ years of .NET and SQL Server experience
- Unit Testing experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work in a very fast‑paced environment and welcome change
- Highly self‑motivated
- Ability to work both in team and solo environments
- Experience building highly scalable software solutions
- Subject Matter Expertise in at least one technical track
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent work experience
- N‑Tier and SaaS development experience is preferred
