About the Role
Balfour Beatty is looking for a Fire Engineer to join our specialist Fire Engineering team within Asset & Technology Solutions. This hands‑on role focuses on the installation, maintenance, and reactive repair of fire alarm systems and associated fire equipment across Balfour Beatty sites nationwide.
You’ll work in line with current British and European Standards, manufacturer requirements, and industry best practice, helping ensure the safety of our people, assets and the public. This role is primarily field‑based and will involve UK‑wide travel; flexibility is essential.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain and repair fire detection systems and associated equipment.
- Diagnose faults and carry out reactive and planned works efficiently and safely.
- Ensure all works comply with industry standards, system specifications and company protocols.
- Complete associated paperwork and manage digital records accurately.
- Deliver and collect materials and equipment, including basic stock control.
- Prepare and follow risk assessments and method statements.
- Maintain a tidy, safe working vehicle.
- Build strong relationships with site teams, internal stakeholders and customers.
- Promote excellent customer service and live the Balfour Beatty values.
- Report near misses, unsafe acts and positive safety observations.
- Stay up to date with changes to regulations, standards and best practice.
- Experience in fire detection installation, maintenance and fault finding.
- Practical, hands‑on industry experience.
- Strong understanding of current fire safety standards.
- Relevant fire trade qualifications.
- Excellent working knowledge of Health & Safety.
- Full, clean UK driving licence.
- Strong communication, organisation and customer service skills.
- Proactive, self‑motivated approach with a flexible attitude to work.
- Experience with in a BAFE‑accredited organisation.
- Knowledge of the construction industry.
- CSCS, ECS, IPAF or PASMA cards.
- Experience with EMS Firecell, Cygnus and/or Sitenet.
- Portable extinguisher experience (BAFE accredited).
- Level 3 Certificate in Risk Assessment.
- Additional trade skills (e.g., electrical or mechanical background).
- Smart working, including staggered start and finish times, with up to 40 % remote working where roles allow.
- 25 days paid annual leave (pro rata).
