Electrician

Requisition

We have a permanent Electrician position at HMP Leicester. This role is based on site and may require you to work one weekend in three on a rota basis, with an additional 15% allowance of basic salary. Standard hours are 39 per week across seven days where a weekend shift pattern is in place. Salary ranges from £30,866 to £36,135, depending on experience.

Prison security clearance will be required;
Amey will support applicants through this process. You will test and inspect electrical installations across prison facilities in accordance with the 18th IEE wiring regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Planned and preventative electrical maintenance.
  • Diagnose and replace failed domestic electrical components.
  • Respond to breakdowns, ensuring all work is carried out under the appropriate Safe System of Work and in a timely manner.
  • Actively fault find and problem‑solve on domestic electrical systems across the prison.
  • Undertake electrical installation activities following the design and IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Test and inspect electrical installations in line with current IEE wiring regulations.
  • Monitor and order critical spares for all electrical services.
  • Support local and business zero‑carbon programmes as appropriate.
  • Ensure health & safety standards are achieved across the contract.
Qualifications
  • City & Guilds 2367 or 2357 Level 2 Electrical Installation works or equivalent.
  • BS 7671 18th Edition (or 17th Edition with upskilling to 18th Edition).
  • Good working knowledge of health & safety requirements.
  • Good working knowledge of planned and preventative maintenance operations.
  • Excellent organisational, time‑management and people skills.
  • Experience working under pressure to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work at heights, independently and use initiative.
  • Desirable: understanding of fire alarm and CCTV systems.
  • Knowledge of Electrical Systems and Electricity at Work Regulations.
  • Basic IT skills.
