Position Summary

The Director of Financial Operations is responsible for directing and managing all financial functions of the organization, including accounting, treasury management, project proforma analysis, financial planning, budgeting, tax compliance, audit activities,and purchasing/procurement oversight.

This position serves as a key strategic partner to ownership and the executive leadership team, helping shape long-term business objectives through sound financial planning and analysis. The position ensures accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, cash flow optimization, and capital management while supporting operational excellence across the organization.

The position will oversee the financial performance of construction projects from inception through completion, ensuring that project costs, revenues, profitability, and cash flow remain aligned with company objectives.

The position may also be responsible for similar functions related to joint ventures and other ancillary businesses in which the company or ownership group has interest.

Key Responsibilities

The Director of Financial Operations is responsible for a wide range of duties and must possess proven aptitude in many areas, including the following:

Strategic Financial Leadership

Provide strategic financial leadership and advice to ownership and executive management regarding business growth, investments, acquisitions, and operational initiatives. Develop long-term financial strategies, establish performance metrics, support organizational planning efforts, and ensure compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations while promoting financial accountability throughout the Company.

Financial Management, Planning, and Analysis

Oversee budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and project accounting functions for the Company. Monitor financial and operational performance, prepare variance analyses, evaluate profitability, and recommend corrective actions as needed. Ensure accurate cost tracking, revenue recognition, Work-in-Progress (WIP) reporting, pre and post project proforma analysis, and compliance with Percentage-of-Completion (POC) accounting standards while partnering with operations leaders to improve project performance and profitability.

Cash

Flow, Treasury, and External Financial Relationships

Manage cash flow, liquidity, working capital, accounts receivable, and accounts payable to support operational and strategic objectives. Oversee construction-related billing and payment processes, including progress billings, retainage, and subcontractor payments. Serve as the primary liaison with banks, lenders, sureties, auditors, tax advisors, and insurance providers, while maintaining bonding capacity, negotiating financing arrangements, and coordinating audits and financial reviews.

Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Technology

Direct all accounting operations and ensure the timely and accurate preparation of financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other applicable standards. Maintain effective internal controls, safeguard Company assets, and oversee financial reporting for ownership and executive leadership. Lead the implementation and continuous improvement of financial systems, reporting tools, and automation initiatives that enhance efficiency, accuracy, and financial visibility.

Leadership and Team Development

Lead, develop, and mentor finance and accounting personnel while fostering a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
