Post Harvest Foreman (Agriculture) Job Overview:
The Post-Harvest Foreman at our cannabis facility will be responsible for overseeing the post harvest processes, including drying, trimming, curing, QC, testing, and waste disposal. The ideal candidate will lead a team of post-harvest technicians to ensure high-quality processing of cannabis flower while maintaining strict compliance with safety standards and regulatory guidelines. You will work closely with the Cultivation Director to coordinate daily activities, optimize workflows, and ensure production targets are met.
Key Responsibilities:Post-Harvest Operations:
- Supervise all stages of post-harvest processes, including:
- Drying:
Overseeing the hanging and drying of cannabis plants to ensure optimal moisture content. - Trimming:
Leading hand and machine trimming operations, ensuring quality standards for appearance and product consistency. - Curing:
Monitoring the curing process to ensure the preservation of cannabinoids and terpenes, optimizing product potency and aroma. - QC:
Managing the quality control of cannabis flower, ensuring that the dry flower is properly trimmed before testing. - Testing:
Setting up dry flower testing for the state and updating the inventory sheet. - Waste Disposal:
Ensuring proper disposal of cannabis waste, adhering to environmental and regulatory guidelines.
- Drying:
- Supervise and mentor the post-harvest team, including trimmers, technicians, and QC staff.
- Delegate tasks and monitor daily progress, ensuring all team members are productive and tasks are completed on schedule.
- Conduct regular team meetings to provide updates, communicate goals, and discuss workflow improvements.
- Train and develop team members in post-harvest techniques, quality control, and safety standards.
- Conduct quality checks during each stage of the post-harvest process to ensure product consistency, quality, and adherence to company standards.
- Identify and address issues such as mold, contamination, or improper handling that may impact product quality.
- Monitor trimming quality, ensuring minimal loss of cannabinoids and preservation of flower structure.
- Assist in refining and improving processes to maximize efficiency and maintain product integrity.
- Ensure all team members follow strict hygiene and sanitation protocols to prevent contamination.
- Maintain accurate records of product weights, moisture levels, and processing times for tracking purposes.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal cannabis regulations, including seed to sale tracking.
- Assist with audits and inspections by regulatory authorities.
- Oversee the maintenance and cleanliness of post-harvest equipment, including drying rooms, trimming machines, sorting machine and QC tools.
- Monitor inventory levels of post-harvest supplies, including packaging materials, gloves, and sanitation products.
- Ensure all tools and equipment are functioning properly and report any issues to the Cultivation Director.
- Enforce company safety policies and ensure the team is using personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.
- Ensure proper ventilation and humidity control in drying and curing areas to prevent safety hazards.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, walk, and move throughout cultivation and post-harvest areas for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, and handling of plant material during drying, trimming, curing, and QC tasks.
- Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 pounds unassisted.
- Manual dexterity required for handling cannabis flower, operating trimming equipment, managing curing containers, and performing quality inspections.
- Ability to work in temperature- and humidity-controlled environments such as drying rooms, cure rooms, and processing spaces.
- Visual acuity required to identify quality issues, contamination, moisture levels, and trimming accuracy.
- Ability to operate or oversee machinery such as trimming machines, sorting equipment, and post-harvest tools.
- Ability to wear required PPE for extended periods.
