Assistant Coach – Volleyball

Temporary Employment – compensation determined in alignment with the Adult Salary Schedule, based on responsibilities assigned by the Head Coach and approved by the Director of Athletics.

Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and the Head Coach, the Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach with assigned intercollegiate sport functions.

Assistant Coach I Responsibilities
  • Advise and instruct students on the theory and practice of the assigned sport.
  • Coach only during practices and games.
  • Assist and support the Academic Success Program.
  • Assist with recruiting.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of this position.
Assistant Coach II Responsibilities
  • Advise and instruct students on theory and practice of the assigned sport.
  • Remain current in theory, coaching, and effective instruction through participation in professional development.
  • Coach only during practices and games.
  • Assist and support the Academic Success Program.
  • Assist with recruiting.
  • Assist with conditioning and weight training programs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of this position.
Assistant Coach III Responsibilities
  • Assist in the assigned intercollegiate sport and physical education courses.
  • Advise and instruct students on theory and practice of the assigned sport.
  • Assist in building strong relations with the community and the athletic department.
  • Help student athletes complete required academics and transfer to a four‑year institution.
  • Remain current in theory, coaching, and effective instruction through participation in professional development.
  • Perform other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of this position.
Assistant Coach I Qualifications Knowledge and Skills
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
  • Ability to work with constant interruptions.
Abilities
  • Work with diverse academic, socio‑economic, ethnic, cultural, disability, and religious backgrounds of community college students.
  • Communicate clearly with students and staff, both orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and community organizations.
Physical Abilities
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Manipulate light to heavy weights up to 75 pounds regularly; push, pull, guide materials over 75 pounds.
  • Bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch regularly.
  • Maintain near and far visual acuity to read printed materials and observe work‑in‑progress.
  • Speak and hear to carry on ordinary conversations.
  • Reach overhead above shoulders and horizontally.
  • Use computer keyboard and other office equipment with sufficient arm, hand, and finger dexterity.
Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent and three years of coaching experience.
Licenses and Certificates
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • CPR and First Aid certification.
Working Conditions

Work is performed indoors and outdoors (athletic field, classroom, and virtual classroom environment). Physical contact with athletes is required.

Assistant Coach II Qualifications Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of modern instructional practices, procedures, and equipment.
  • Knowledge of coaching techniques and theory.
