Perform level‑I maintenance on aircraft avionics systems; interpret maintenance manuals; test, service, inspect, replace, or repair avionics components; diagnose malfunctions; work with maintenance tools and equipment; support line maintenance and complete required training and licensing.
Key Responsibilities- Maintain, test, service, inspect, replace, or repair all required avionics systems according to specifications.
- Diagnose, isolate, and correct system malfunctions.
- Read and interpret manufacturers’ manuals, service bulletins, technical data, maintenance requirement cards, and other specifications to determine repair feasibility and methods.
- Qualify on and work with ground support equipment, special calibration equipment, and special tools.
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight inspections; conduct miscellaneous maintenance tasks (flushing crankcase, cleaning filters, greasing moving parts, checking brakes).
- Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; enter maintenance records; verify work satisfaction; service engines and airframe components at line station.
- Perform repairs, short‑overhauls, and modifications of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies, including engine repair.
- Work across all aircraft systems as a general Aircraft Mechanic I.
- Follow direction of higher‑graded workers.
- Other duties as required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of level‑I aircraft system maintenance experience.
- Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for assigned tasks.
- May be required to be licensed by the Federal Aviation Administration;
Navy Aviation Class A School or equivalent experience may be substituted. - Specialization in sheet‑metal, electrical work, avionics or other aircraft system disciplines is preferred.
- 18 months as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) or related inspector roles is preferred.
- Minimum 36 months organizational‑level experience; preferred to have 24 months F/A‑18 experience within the last 36 months.
- Completion of CDI qualification syllabus and all qualifications to obtain CDI within 90 days of employment.
- Understanding of Department of Defense maintenance processes is preferred.
- Ability to obtain and maintain any additional qualifications or licenses required.
- May be required to qualify in additional certifications such as Low Power Engine Turn‑Up Operator (LPT), High Power Engine Turn‑Up Operator (HPT), Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR), and/or Plane Captain.
- Ability to inspect and maintain all company and customer assets, including Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), per applicable directives.
- Fluency in English (reading, writing, speaking).
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance, DoD CAC privileges, and Special Access Badge requirements.
- Availability to work days, nights, and weekends as required.
- Current valid U.S. Driver’s License.
- Willingness to travel.
- Participate in training and qualification of new personnel and ongoing required training documentation.
- Professional demeanor and customer‑service skills.
- Working knowledge of aircraft technical orders, job guides, publications, schematic diagrams, and drawings.
- Knowledge of flight‑line operations safety and hazards.
- Work environment ranges from office to hangar and flight line; requires climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking.
- Must be physically able to lift 50 lb and perform assigned duties.
