Job Summary

M1 seeks an Aircraft Mechanic I (Avionics) to perform organizational and maintenance on aircraft avionic systems. The role includes both specialized and general duties across all aircraft systems, with emphasis on avionic training and certification requirements.

Primary Responsibilities
  • Have in-depth knowledge of assigned aircraft electrical, instrumentation, systems and related components including power generation, distribution, regulation and control. Automatic Flight Control Systems, Inertial Navigation and Compass Systems, Attitude Systems, Lead Acid, NiCad and Carbon Batteries, Pitot and Static Systems, Interior and Exterior Lighting Systems, Electrohydraulics and Electromechanical systems, Warning and Detection Systems, Instruments of Flight, Capacitance Fuel Quantity and Transfer Systems.
  • Maintain, test, service, inspect, replace or repair to specification all required systems.
  • Diagnose, isolate, and correct system malfunction(s).
  • Read and interpret manufacturers’ and airline’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, maintenance requirement cards, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
  • Be qualified on and work with ground support equipment, special calibration equipment, and special tools.
  • Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru-flight, and post-flight maintenance inspections; perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
  • Supervise the jacking and towing of aircraft, enter maintenance records descriptions of the work performed and verify work was performed satisfactorily; service engines and airframe components at line station; specialize in work, repair and modification of structural, precision, and functional spare parts and assemblies; and specialize in engine repair.
  • Work on all aircraft systems beyond the field of expertise by acting as a general Aircraft Mechanic I.
  • Follow direction of higher graded workers.
Qualifications and Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must have 3 years of aircraft system maintenance experience at the organizational level.
  • Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
  • May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration. Navy Aviation Class A School (or military equivalent) with recent aviation experience may be substituted.
  • May require specialization in sheet‑metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
  • 18 months as a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI), Quality Insurance Inspector, or Inspector Authorization (IA) preferred.
  • Minimum 36 months Organization level experience. Preferred to have 24 months F/A‑18 experience within the last 36 months.
  • Must complete CDI qualification syllabus and all qualifications to obtain CDI within 90 days of employment.
  • Thorough understanding of DOD aircraft maintenance processes preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain any additional qualifications or license required to maintain aircraft and qualifications.
  • May be required to qualify in additional certifications such as Low Power Engine Turn‑Up Operator (LPT), High Power Engine Turn‑Up Operator (HPT), Collateral Duty Quality Assurance Representative (CDQAR) and/or Plane Captain.
  • Must be able to inspect and maintain all company and customer assets, including all assigned Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), in accordance with applicable directives.
  • Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Obtain/maintain security clearance, DOD CAC privileges, and Special Access Badge requirements.
  • Must be able to work days, nights, and weekends as required.
  • Current valid U.S. Driver’s License.
