Job Summary: Aircraft Mechanics I Electrical/Electrician performs organizational level maintenance on assigned aircraft. Primary responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Have in‑depth knowledge of assigned aircraft electrical, instrumentation, systems and related components including power generation, distribution, regulation and control, automatic flight control systems, inertial navigation, compass systems, attitude systems, batteries (lead acid, NiCad, carbon), pitot and static systems, interior/exterior lighting, electrohydraulics, electromechanical systems, warning and detection systems, flight instruments, capacitance fuel quantity and transfer systems.
- Maintain, test, service, inspect, replace or repair to specification all required systems.
- Diagnose, isolate, and correct system malfunctions.
- Read and interpret manufacturers' and airline's maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, maintenance requirement cards and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Be qualified and work with ground support equipment, special calibration equipment, and special tools.
- Adjust, repair, or replace electrical wiring systems and aircraft accessories; perform preflight, thru‑flight, and post‑flight maintenance inspections; perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft, including flushing crankcase, cleaning screens and filters, greasing moving parts, and checking brakes.
- Supervise jacking and towing of aircraft; record maintenance descriptions; verify work performed satisfactorily; service engines and airframe components at line station; make repairs short of overhaul to keep aircraft in safe operating condition; specialize in structural, precision, functional spare parts and assemblies, and engine repair.
- Work on all aircraft systems beyond field of expertise by acting as a general Aircraft Mechanic I.
- Follow direction of higher graded workers.
Qualifications and
Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 3 years of organizational level aircraft system maintenance experience.
- Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for assigned maintenance tasks.
- May be required to be licensed by Federal Aviation Administration; military ratings may substitute.
- May require specialization in sheet‑metal, electric work, avionics or other aircraft systems related disciplines.
- Preferred: 18 months as a Collateral Duty Inspector, Quality Insurance Inspector, or Inspector Authorization.
- Minimum 36 months organizational level experience; preferred 24 months F/A‑18 experience within last 36 months.
- Must complete CDI qualification syllabus and qualifications within 90 days of employment.
- Thorough understanding of DOD aircraft maintenance processes preferred.
- Must be able to obtain additional qualifications or license required to maintain aircraft.
- May require additional certifications such as LPT, HPT, CDQAR, and/or Plane Captain.
- Must inspect and maintain all company and customer assets, including PPE, per directives; ensure safe and efficient use.
- Must speak, read, write, and understand English.
- Obtain/maintain security clearance, DOD CAC privileges, and Special Access Badge requirements.
- Must work days, nights, and weekends as required.
- Current valid U.S. Driver's License.
- Ability to travel.
- Participate in training and qualification of new personnel; required daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, and annual training; ensure documentation.
- Willingness to deal with customers and company employees in a courteous and professional manner.
- Working knowledge of aircraft technical orders/job guides/publications – read, interpret, follow, and comprehend schematic diagrams, drawings, charts, and technical publications.
- Knowledge of flight line operations and safety hazards.
Working Conditions:
- Environment ranges from office to hangar and flight line; requires extensive climbing, standing, stooping, bending, pushing, kneeling, stretching, and walking.
- Physically able to lift 50 lbs and perform duties as assigned.
