Position Summary

Henderson Building Solutions is looking for a Project Engineer to join our team in Lenexa, Kansas. The Project Engineer performs routine aspects of field coordination, project management, or cost engineering under close supervision. The role supports local and national projects, manages safety, cost, and scheduling, and assists with project documentation, budgeting, and client interactions. This entry‑level position provides foundational experience in all aspects of managing a construction project.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist Project Managers with logistical tasks, budgeting, and client management.
  • Attend internal and external meetings as called by the primary construction manager.
  • Update and maintain project management software.
  • Assemble and distribute equipment and construction bid packages.
  • Monitor safety, cost, and scheduling, and expedite materials on the job.
  • Coordinate materials and change orders, and expedite materials.
  • Coordinate with clients to ensure project requirements are understood.
  • Assist with the oversight of project design and deliverables, including preparations of contract documents.
  • Prepare monthly pay applications and monitor project financial status.
  • Maintain thorough documentation and updated project folders.
  • Coordinate with engineers and other professionals to ensure project alignment.
  • Monitor and document project progress and alert construction managers of any issues.
  • Implement effective time‑management strategies to optimize workflow.
  • Record meeting notes and distribute them as needed.
  • Research contractors for the project bid process.
  • Contact subcontractors for project documents.
  • Process contractually required documentation, including certificates of insurance, daily logs, RFIs, and change order requests.
  • Contact clients regarding service quality and satisfaction, and obtain reference letters for marketing.
  • Follow all directions, task assignments, and coaching from managers and colleagues.
  • Read and interpret blueprints and technical drawings.
  • Prepare and coordinate shop drawings and submittals.
  • Understand the impact of design changes and schedule slippages.
  • Gain knowledge of engineering, procurement, and construction terminology and concepts.
  • Learn critical path logic networks and maintain data for realistic planning and forecasting.
  • Attend client meetings and support the preparation of statistical reports.
  • Assist in creating job‑site records, including project and subcontractor directories and reporting logs.
  • Update as‑built drawings and interpret basic coordination drawings.
  • Participate in safety programs and maintain good owner relations.
  • Facilitate a safe and efficient work environment.
  • Support planning, materials, building, and budgeting of construction projects.
  • Negotiate cost estimates for construction work and associated change orders.
  • Assist with business development by promoting Henderson Companies.
  • Participate in client, company, and industry events.
  • Grow personal networks by building relationships with clients and industry professionals.
  • Develop and maintain customer relationships to enhance project procurement.
